Although I see and hear about it less often now, in the early days of BME, this style of ultra-deep PA was one of the most asked about procedures. In these, the ring doesn’t exit at the base of the glans; it continues down the urethra, past the scrotrum, and exits about where a guiche piercing would be placed. Looking at it another way, it’s jewelry inserted via a urethral reroute.

This is just such a happy, friendly photo I had to share it here. You have to wonder though what the other tourists vacationing at Rapids Water Park thought about the heavy-duty bulges.

It’s always interesting looking at modification-esque surgical procedures that have faded into obscurity as other techniques have replaced them. A good example is eyeball tattooing (yes, it’s safe) which fell out of fashion after corrective colored contact lenses were developed. Another example is cineplasty.
Muscle tunnel cineplasty is a procedure in which a tunnel (like a piercing hole) is formed through muscle and then lined with skin grafts. This allows you to form a permanent piercing through large muscle groups such as the bicep. In the past (and sometimes now) these were used to attach prosthetic limbs to the muscles remaining in the stump. Here’s a couple photos:
These days smaller externalizations of muscle are generally performed which then attach to various electrical controllers. For example, this short video (source), which you can download either as a Windows Media Video (1.36 meg) or as a QuickTime MP4 (0.98 meg meg).
In any case, these deep muscle piercings are certainly very plausible, although far outside of the realm of the average underground surgeon due to complicated steps such as the skin grafts.

I’ve mentioned ear procedures here before (by Howie, Sampaa, and Matias), but I thought posting one more couldn’t hurt. This is a second generation pointing (as in it was pointed once, and then the procedure was repeated to exaggerate the effect) on Tyler by Brian of PURE/NYC. I think the results speak for themselves — to date, this may be the most dramatically “pointed” result that I’ve seen.

IAM:arco had a chance to head up to Phuket Thailand last month for the vegetarian festival (which involves, among other things, devotees having extremely large temporary piercings done in their cheeks into which elements of their lives are inserted). While male nullification procedures such as castration and penectomy are relatively common on a sub-subcultural level, female nullification procedures are much more rare — I’d say in a consensual context, less than a 1:100 ration of female:male procedures. These photos are very graphic, so please don’t view them if you aren’t up to it.

You’re looking at a large transscrotal piercing. In the first picture it’s been twisted up and the penis has been inserted through it. The second picture is the same put the penis hasn’t been put through.

One of the coolest things about running BME is getting to meet people from all over the world… and one of the amazing things has been seeing how even though we come from different cultures and histories and speak different languages, we respond to body modification, body art, and body rituals in the same way, and it becomes a really obvious example of humans being the same all over the world.
