A tattooed person suspends from hooks, laying flat, one leg higher than the other. Their head is back, and they seem to be smiling, dark hair dangling like an anime character.

  • It’s a stork

I’m going to file this one under “some will love it and some will hate it”.

This very abstract take on a stork was sent in by op_scr.  I’ve been seeing a lot of this style sent in over the past year, so obviously there’s a good number of people out there that appreciate the aesthetic.

  • Octopus on the rocks

Char Hall from Side Show Studios in Sacramento, CA put together this awesome octopus half-sleeve.

  • Mouse!

Here’s the thing.  Every time I tried to think up a headline for this post, my mind got bogged down in dirty jokes.  So I just decided to focus on what’s important.  And that is the adorable mouse tattoo.  Now, there’s nothing mod-related under the black square, so you’re pretty much seeing the point of the post without missing anything important.  But for those curious, you can click on the mouse to see the uncensored version, and start thinking of some of the headlines I was tempted to use.

And if you don’t want to click it now, you can see it any time in the female genital tattooing gallery.

  • Fish out of water

I’ve got 4 words for you.  “Joey. Pang. Tattoo. Temple.”  On their own, they’re simply words, but when you put them together, you get brilliance.

She’s been making a splash in Hong Kong for some time now, consistently putting out beautiful pieces of art.  Simply do a search on ModBlog for “Tattoo Temple” and you’ll see what I mean.

  • Back to Brisbane

One of the artists the BME World Tour interviewed, Brendan O’Connor, is back today showing off a magnificent full back piece.

You see the rest of the piece by reading on.

Brendan is now working out of Seventh Circle Studio in Brisbane, and you can check out more of his recent works, including close-ups of this piece in the oriental style tattoo gallery.

  • Minimal cat is minimal

Art comes in many forms, and while some people love lavish and detailed works, others prefer a more minimalistic approach.   Gábor Zagyvai from Budapest is one artist that excels in minimalistic tattoos.

Of course that’s not all Gabor can do, as a quick look back into the ModBlog archives shows his abilities with complex pieces of art in both tattoos and scarification.  Head on over to the nature and wildlife galleries to check out a couple more minimalist pieces that he has done recently.

  • A fish of a different colour

As many of you know, every Friday ModBlog features a follow-up post for scarification pieces.  It’s made possible thanks to the contributions of artists, as well as those who have the art on their skin.  What we don’t see a lot of is images of tattoos in progress, sent in alongside the completed tattoo.  Thanks to Hoiers, and his submissions, this week we can show you a piece as it transitions from line work and shading, to a full colour piece.

This koi is by Artjoms Saviljevs from Rigas Tinte in Riga, Latvia.  As you can see in this first image, the majority of the outline is done, as is some of the grey shading.

And here’s what it looks like with a splash of colour added.

You can check out more of the artist’s work in the oriental-style tattoo gallery.

  • Taking a break

When it’s a nice summer day in Cape Town, South Africa, don’t be surprised if you stumble across PrettyHateMachine out on her lunch break in a cupcake shop.

That oriental style tattoo on her shoulder was done by Garth Staunton from Wildfire, also from Cape Town.

  • Foxy Lady

While this fox is still in progress, it is still a damn fine looking piece.

Jakub Nadrowski from Forsaken Ink in Bloomingburg, NY sent in this tattoo that is 6 hours along.  As you’ve probably guessed by now, it can be found in the nature and wildlife gallery.

  • A swan never forgets

When I first saw this photo in the gallery, I had assumed that it was two separate tattoos.  It wasn’t until I zoomed in and looked at the full size image that I realized this is one solid piece covering the ribs and thigh.

Head on over to the wildlife and animal tattoo gallery to check out the full size photo of this tattoo by Anson Eastin from Forever Tattoo in Cape Coral, FL
