A tattooed person suspends from hooks, laying flat, one leg higher than the other. Their head is back, and they seem to be smiling, dark hair dangling like an anime character.

We’re open tonight until midnight and Sunday from noon until 8pm. Check out the amazing artists, book an appointment to get some ink and say hi to friends!

These are a couple of photos that I took earlier, we’ll have a more official post with contest winners and lots more photos coming up.

  • To be

The title for this entry was the caption arkangel666 used with this photo. She looks a little sad to me but maybe she’s just contemplating life. No artist credit given for any of the mods however I think it’s worth just sitting back and appreciating the view in this case.

  • Only one side is ’80s!

Back a few years ago I decided to get my nose pierced again. I’d had it done twice before and twice before I’d decided I no longer wanted it and took it out. I told my friend Krista I was going to get this done again and she said, “Get both sides pierced. Only one side is ’80s.” She was joking around, of course, but I ended up getting both sides pierced anyway. Not long after that I had to get an MRI done and had to remove my jewellery. I couldn’t get them back in after that and for a third and likely final time, I retired my nostril piercings.

I’d had these (and many other piercings) done by Shawn at Epidart. Coincidentally, Shawn just happens to be the piercer of this lovely set of nostril piercings as well. (See how I tied that in there?) Here’s hoping “LoveHatesYou” keeps hers longer than I kept mine!

I remember back in the 80s, it actually was quite popular for awhile, to have multiple nostril piercings but I don’t see it as much anymore. Or maybe I just don’t notice. Nostril piercings seem to have become almost as acceptable in the work place as earlobe piercings. I ask you once again dear ModBlog reader, do you think nostril piercings are becoming (or simply are) as acceptable as standard earlobe piercings? Would you say that it’s more acceptable for a woman to have her nose pierced than a man when it comes to employment dress code, or would you say there’s really no difference?

  • Shhh…

You’ll have to excuse my silence but my hard drive started failing last week and then went completely.  Now that I’m back up and running, I’m trying to get caught up on moderation again.  That’s just what I was doing when I came across this submission from SaD and I thought it was really cool!  The artist is Roman Fursov from Хорс in Lipetsk, Russia.  One of the best parts of moderating images for BME is getting to see the work that comes out of so many different countries. I’ve definitely noticed a rise in submissions from shops outside of the US and Canada and that’s fantastic!

I can’t place the girl but she’s very familiar to me. The portrait is based on the Wasp Queen doll by artist Virginie Ropars.  I love the shading on the face and in particular around her lips and the furrow of her brow.

  • Survey says…

I was looking at the posts on a Facebook group called Tattoo Acceptance in the Workplace.  It got me wondering and so I thought I’d pose some questions to you, dear ModBlog readers.  Are you tattooed?  If so, are any of them visible?  Are tattoos accepted in your workplace?  What industry do you work in?  Where in the world do you live?

I thought it might be interesting to see where visible tattoos are more accepted and where they are completely frowned upon.

I’m throwing in this sick (I hear that’s what kids these days call cool) and totally unrelated tattoo of Davy Jones, submitted by Gotter and inked by Jade Campos out of Arte Sagrado in Peru.

  • Beauty has her way

I’m not ashamed to say that when I came across this photo, this beautiful woman actually took my breath away. She is absolutely stunning. UndoingEverything has credited James of Body Electric Tattoo though she didn’t specify whether he did all of her piercings or something in particular in the photo.  Her piercings really work well and are very aesthetically pleasing.  I think this is a good example of body modification really enhancing someone’s appearance.  (I may also have a slight girl crush, it’s hard to say.)

  • You can never grow old and you can never die, but you must feed!

Before vampires sparkled, they were cool. They wore leather and rode motorcycles and lived in a place called Santa Carla! To the wearer of this tattoo, I salute you! This was my favourite movie when I was a kid and remains so to this day. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Max.

    More after the jump.

Rooster of Prick Tattoos in San Antonio, Texas sent these shots in. You can see a few more pieces in the portrait tattoo gallery on BME. Here are a couple more for you.

And I must end this post with the sexiest Lost Boy of them all, Dwayne.

I didn’t see any shots of David (though they may have been submitted prior to this batch) but I’m hoping we get to see more of this piece and I’d love to hear from the wearer about why they decided to pay tribute in ink to the greatest vampire film of all time.

Have a great weekend folks and hey, why not rent The Lost Boys (or if you own it like me pull it out of the dvd pile) for the sake of old times. Just don’t invite any vampires in to watch with you!

  • I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker

I’m just going to go ahead and say my immediate reaction to this tattoo was “Wow.”  The hands are really something and I’m a really big fan of this piece and the others that the artist, Alexandru Petcu, uploaded to BME.  He works out of Spunk Tattoo and you’ll have to get yourself to Bucharest if you want to get some work done by him.  Judging by this photo and the others he uploaded to BME, I’d say it would be worth the trip.

This photo was submitted combined like this but I’ve separated them and included another shot after the jump so you can get a closer look.

  • Where is the fish?

This amazingly colourful piece was submitted by Fabrizio Divari.  You can find Fabrizio at his studio, Fabrizio Divari Art in Toronto which also contains contact information if you’re looking to get some work done by him.  While this is a work in progress and I don’t know what’s planned for it, I think it would be really cool if the fish remained the only parts of the tattoo with colour.  I also really like how the blues and greens are pulled through into each of the fish.

Of course, Fabrizio isn’t new to the ModBlog world.  You can read his BME interview from 2008 here.

You can see more of Fabrizio’s work in his mini portfolio on BME. Have a fun and safe weekend folks!
