To call ThundaKat79 a fan of the ThunderCats is a bit of an understatement. With both her chest and back dedicated to the heroes of Third Earth, its safe to say that she loved one Saturday morning cartoon more than the others. Just a quick note, her chest isn’t complete yet, so hopefully we’ll get a look at it again when it is finished.

KINGS AVENUE TATTOO SHOP OPENS ON BOWERY
Travel far back enough in time and the high-end boutiques and martini bars of the Bowery disappear. Decades before there was a CBGBs – much less a John Varvatos boutique in its former footprint – the Bowery was America’s most notorious “skid row.” Crime flourished in the alleyways, derelicts lay dying in the gutters and sailors on shore-leave stopped by the neighborhood for assorted vice and a tattoo before shipping off to sea.
While that era is long gone (and few lament its passing), one thing worth celebrating has returned to the Bowery: tattooing.
On April 1st, KINGS AVENUE NYC opened its doors at 188 Bowery to a reveal a beautiful, open-loft floor plan to the public. Framed paintings decorate the walls and with its black glass chandeliers and oriental carpets, KINGS AVENUE NYC doesn’t look the rough-and-tumble shops of the old Bowery – nor is it the place to get a crude anchor quickly scratched into your forearm. This is a pristine gallery space where fine-art is being created on skin seven days a week.
Sharing a name with the flagship location in Massapequa, Long Island, KINGS AVENUE NYC was founded by tattooist and international award-winner, MIKE RUBENDALL, with his associate, GREZ, a well-respected tattooist in his own right. While people have traveled from all over the world to visit their Long Island location for everything from a full-scale Japanese body-suit to a modestly-sized, classic nod to Americana flash, RUBENDALL explains that they opted to open a second shop on Bowery, “for the simple fact of wanting to be a part of the energy, life, and creativity that Manhattan possesses.”
KINGS AVENUE NYC will also feature the work of resident artists MATT BECKERICH, JUSTIN WEATHERHOLTZ, BRIAN PAUL, SHAUN NEL, KEVIN LEBLANC and SARAH SCHOR – a talented collective that has adorned the bodies of notables like actress EVAN RACHEL WOOD, hip-hop empresario DAMON DASH and rocker PETE WENTZ of FALL OUT BOY. The public can also expect to see guest appearances from renowned artists like CHRIS O’DONNELL, TIM HENDRICKS and Denmark’s HENNING JORGENSON as well as “celebrity” tattooists such as CHRIS NUÑEZ (Miami Ink) and KAT VON D (L.A. Ink). Artists will be present to accept unscheduled “walk-in” clients, but due to their individual waiting lists, clients are encouraged to contact the artists at KINGS AVENUE NYC in advance.
Sure, the Bowery has gotten a make-over in the past few years, but now it can also get a beautiful tattoo.

Oh what a tangled web we weave. Three years ago, when Anders did this heart/web combination, who could have thought it would turn out the way it did.
Three years is a pretty long time, which makes this follow-up one of the longest time differences so far. Keep on reading to see how it healed up.
What I think is most interesting is that the heart appears to have puffed out slightly, while parts of the web appear almost indented into the skin. There are more photos of this scar in Anders’ portfolio gallery if you want some closer looks.

The blossoms themselves can mean different things to different people, which is probably why they’ve become something of a staple image for tattoos. It’s one thing to do a suspension outdoors in winter. It’s a completely different thing to do a tandem suspension outdoors in the middle of a Russian winter at night.

I love it when people add stories to their photo submissions. While not every photo needs a story attached, but when there is one, it can completely change your perception of the contents of the photo.
ldready recently sent in this photo of their newest tattoo. What you’re looking at is the back of the neck with a depiction of a thyroid gland. You see, ldready lost their thyroid to cancer over a year and a half ago, so this tattoo is an opportunity to get it back.
As you can see, knowing the story behind this tattoo enables you to not only understand why this person wanted a thyroid tattooed on their neck, it also lets you know that this isn’t an Alien egg.

Oftentimes the scars that are noticed the most are the large ones. Size of course is one factor, as is the level of detail allowed in a large scar. Yet sometimes a small scar can be just as noticeable, especially when you have an artist like Brian.
According to Brian this was an extremely delicate piece to cut out. I’m not 100% sure of the positioning, but if he says it’s delicate it’s safe to assume it’s a small scar.
