A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.
  • One of these things is not like the other

Sure one of these nails isn’t like the other, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t belong.  It’s images like this one that I wish I had more to give you guys.  All I can tell you is that it was sent in by Mario Sanchez along with a number of other photos, most of which appear to be done with a single needle.  But back to the photo at hand.  By the looks of it, we’ve got a partial finger amputation that has been tattooed to appear as a normal finger.

This just goes to show you the range in which we get here at ModBlog.  Some weeks we’ll be looking at the cross section of a finger by someone who wants a portion of their body removed, while this week we have someone who has lost a portion of their body and is doing something to make it appear that it is still intact.

In any case, it makes a nice addition to the fingernail modification gallery.

  • The Chaos Pattern

This is an open letter to Sonja from Punktum Tattoo.

Dearest Sonja, I don’t know what kind of deal you have made with the spirits of this world, but somehow they have graced you with the ability to see beyond the random.  You can make order out of chaos, defying every law of the natural world.  Your mad genius continually spawns works so breathtaking that whoever is lucky enough to have you grace their body with a tattoo must have to pay you with a piece of their soul.  You peer beyond the borders of this world, bringing us visions of beauty, and for that we thank you.

    So many dots.

  • Breaking away from the ordinary

Hi everyone, I’m back from my wilderness retreat and I come bearing gifts.  From the cold frigid air of St. Petersburg, Russia, the #Leeds suspension crew makes it a point to break away from the mold when it comes to suspension photography.  Now don’t ask me how this photo was obtained, as I have it on good authority that the last person to cross the #Leeds crew is still hanging from hooks somewhere in Siberia.

The ModBlog margins don’t do this photo justice at all.  There’s such a contrast between the calm expression on his face and the chaos of the cords shattering behind him, that the only way to appreciate it is by going to the #Leeds Suspension team gallery.

  • You know who’s not worried about the rapture?

Tibetan Monks, and most of the rest of the world for that matter. I mention the monks because they tie into my religious theme and this piece was merely described as “Tibetan”.

This extremely clean scar (especially for it’s location)  was a collaboration between Christiano Aielli and Lewis Dodd.

PS: My apologies for the brief repost of the pistol scarification piece. Some how I missed that on modblog previously and when I searched to check that it hadn’t been posted, none of my key words triggered it. Thanks, Jon P for pointing it out.

  • Heeeeeerrrre’s Phuture Primitive!

Like I said earlier today I am not a Christian and even if I were I certainly wouldn’t be amongst the ones that are actually convinced tomorrow is the rapture. That being said, if I wake up tomorrow and this dude’s hovering over me, I will pray harder than a guilt ravaged priest who just fondled his own son.

No offense to Phuture Primitive here, I think its just the John Lennon meets Lady Gaga glasses that scare the hell out of me.

  • Happy birthday Steve!

I know, I know, I said today was going to have a religious theme, but bare with me. Steve was the founder of the Church Of Body Modification, so it ties in.

Here he is with a client immediately after pointing her ears, a procedure he pioneered. As more and more artist enter into the realm of “extreme modifications” it’s becoming more and more common for people to know about mods he invented without knowing about him, and thats a damn shame. Well, except for the people who know him as “that guy from the wierd documentary on netflix”, which I have heard several times recently.

Aside from being the single biggest innovator in the body mod world, he is also a super nice guy with an amazing bedside manner, so take a second to wish him a happy birthday.

  • Happy Rapture Eve!

Well, with all the hoopla surrounding a small group of Christians who think the Big J is coming back tomorrow to take away the good ones and leave the rest of us scoundrels here to face the apocalypse, I felt it only fitting to go with a religious theme today.

Even though I am by no means a Christian, I have a long standing affinity for angels, I think watching The Prophecy a few dozen times too often may have led to this. This particular angel backpiece was done by Matt Kramer of Mind’s Eye Tattoo in Emmaus, Pa.

  • Where fine art and body art collide

La Negra is pretty much modblog royalty at this point, and  as such deserves to be immortalized as a work of art. As a community defined by taking artistic expression to the extreme by permanently wearing the art, it should come as no surprise many in this community are also involved in other forms of art as well. When one person can bring fine arts and body arts together, it is particularly appealing.

This particular work of art is a watercolor & pencil piece by Jennie Philpott.

  • The yin and the yang, the hard ass and the sweetheart

Feet tattoos scare some people, not having them, but the act of getting them. Hand poked tattoos have that same effect. So when someone get’s a  hand poked foot tattoo, I think it’s safe to assume they are somewhat of a badass…….yet with the pink toenails all the sudden they seem sweet and approachable. So here’s a pair of bad ass, yet sweet and approachable feet tattooed by  Biran Wood of Self Made Studio in Asheboro, NC.

  • She’ll have to indulge for me.

Right now, I am sitting inside my house bitter and grumpy that the ice cream man just drove by but instead of running out the door waving dollars like a drunk, lonely man in a titty bar I stayed inside. I relunctantly decided, I’d be better off not eating that delicious junk food, because unlike this lovely young lady my old, bitter metabolism can’t process that sort of  sweet frozen orgasm.

Nope, lucky for Luckytcha she can indulge in this treat, have it melting all over her and still be hot.

Her tattoo was done by Uncle Allan at Ink Rat Tattoo in Tokyo, Japan.
