  • In memory of Scarlette Adora

    This post is going to be tough for me to write.  Just over a year ago two very close friends of mine lost their twin daughters within a few hours of their birth.  The pain and devastation they went through afterwards was horrible.  The loss of a child, especially an infant, is utterly tragic and I would never wish that kind of hurt upon anyone.  Sadly, their loss is shared by many more parents around the world, including members of our own community.

    About a month ago, IAM: Miss3uggie and her husband Troy lost their 5 1/2 month old daughter, Scarlette Adora, to SIDS.  2 days after getting the final autopsy report, Troy and Bug went to visit Kerri Kiple from Rendezvous Tattoo & Body Piercing in Marquette, MI where she gave him his first tattoo, a portrait of Scarlette.  With the memory still fresh, Kerri was able to give Troy a small amount of closure.  This is a wound that probably will never heal, and anything that will help Troy and Bug at this time in their lives is greatly appreciated.  Kerri did a wonderful job capturing the joy that Scarlette was able to bring to this world in her brief time with us.

    Scarlette was taken way too soon from this world, however her memory will always be kept alive by those who loved her.  A group of IAM moms put together a facebook page as a memorial for Scarlette, which you can find right here.

  • Taking it easy

    Well, for Supa this is easy, for anyone else, it’s a bit of a challenge.  What Supa is doing is a modified invisible chair suspension, with 5 hooks located in his left knee, left bicep, right calf, right elbow, and the nape of his neck.  Definitely some interesting hook placements for this type of suspension.

    They’re also pink and blue.

    According to Cecer this isn’t the finished tattoo, but it’s close enough to being completed that she wanted to share.  At first glance I thought they were the unicorns from Charlie the Unicorn, but the lack of horns squashed that idea.

    Here’s something nice and nerdy to round out today.  Ross Turpin from Star Crossed Tattoo in Hong Kong created this image of C-3PO’s hands paying.  Now my Star Wars-fu isn’t always up to par, but I don’t recall anyone actually praying to the force.  Maybe Droids have their own religion, with Asimov’s laws serving as their commandments.

  • Beauty in rejection

    A lot of discussion has arose over some of the microdermal projects that have been coming out of Tribal Trading Tilburg.  While in some cases the projects have held up well over time, sometimes they don’t.  Nesh Cash, one of the artists at Tribal Trading Tilburg, always ensures that the clients are aware of both the difficulties in maintaining piercings of this type, but also the risks of scarification afterwards.  Unlike the triskellion project, this cross (which was featured a few months ago), didn’t take and resulted in an interesting looking scar.

    Just like any piercing, the potential for rejection is present, and with projects like this, the chances are increased.  It’s great to see that Tribal Trading Tilburg is trying new things, and while not every project is a perfect success, even the ones that reject can still result in an interesting modification.
