A tattooed person suspends from hooks, laying flat, one leg higher than the other. Their head is back, and they seem to be smiling, dark hair dangling like an anime character.

  • Faith Sterilizes, Right?

In a few days (just waiting back for a final set of questions) I’ll be posting an interview with Kamal Jeet Sharma about his tattoo studio in Ludhiana, Punjab and his efforts to professionalize tattooing in India. Mark from Everything and Nothing snapped this photo of some of Kamal’s typical “competition”, a street tattoo machine he saw in Northern India in the Himalayan foothills.

  • Polynesian-style Scalp Tattoos

This piece (which reminds me of Dan DiMattia‘s style of course, as well as Vincent Hocquet‘s) was done by Pierrot at Arte Corpus in Marseille, France. Continue reading for an earlier photo.

  • The Once-Ler’s House

I think the world would be a much better place if every kid had The Lorax, The Sneetches, and maybe Horton Hears a Who (and not this new bastardized movie version) in their libraries… I’ve read it to my daughter many, many times, so I was very happy to see this Dr. Seuss tattoo by Will Thompson at Outer Limits in Costa Mesa, California.

    “But now,” says the Once-ler,
    “Now that you’re here,
the word of the Lorax seems perfectly clear.
    UNLESS someone like you
    cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better.
    It’s not.

    “SO…
    Catch!” calls the Once-ler.
    He lets something fall.
    “It’s a Truffula Seed.
It’s the last one of all!
You’re in charge of the last of the Truffula Seeds.
And Truffula Trees are what everyone needs.
Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care.
Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air.
Grow a forest. Protect it from axes that hack.
    The the Lorax
    and all of his friends
    may come back.”

  • Want a free tattoo?

Greg tells me that he and his presumably drunk friends (or Scott at least) at Akron Ink are shooting to do an entire calendar. So far only “Mr. September” is taken… Want to be next? The price is right!

PS. I’m not really posting today.

  • Vincent Hocquet Interview Posted

I’ve posted another interview with another Belgium neo-tribal/geometric artist (a la Dan), this time Vincent Hoquet of Beautiful Freak Tattoo (check out his BME gallery at that link) who’s been featured here a few times. Click through for the interview, and come back to comment.
