A tattooed person suspends from hooks, laying flat, one leg higher than the other. Their head is back, and they seem to be smiling, dark hair dangling like an anime character.

  • Scar what you do!

Apparently IAM:serpenttitties is a cereal killer (at first I thought this was a chef’s cutting). Cutting and removal by Meg Barber at Beelistic Tattoo and Piercing in Cincinnati, OH.

  • Liztaylor8!

And I can’t forget the BMEgirls department of ModBlog — today let me introduce French heavy-modded supervixen Liztaylor8. She’s a suspension artist, has heavy scarification work, transdermals horns, and lots more! Click to download a poster from a recent photo shoot.

  • Strike Branding Video

I haven’t posted a video in some time, even though my old friend Jonathan Piercing has very generously sent me a nice pile of them (some of the heavier ones are on BMEvideo)… So I’m going to start posting them so everyone can enjoy them! I’ll start with his XXX stomach strike branding. I enjoyed this video a lot because it really captures the fun and emotion and endorphin response of this artform. [Especially] those of you who’ve had strike branding done I think will enjoy this also.

This was done way back in 2000 at Tattoo Galery in Venezuela by Javier Hecatombe.

  • Kitty Cat Cutting

For those of you looking for a less threatening scar, here’s a very cute little (about two and a half inches in size) scar done by Efix at D-Markation in Quebec city, Canada.

  • Chicks Dig Need Scars

Since I’ve started now, furthering the theory that “Shannon is a bad, bad man”, I will now make the confession that I find scars like this incredibly attractive… I’ve always been drawn to marred beauty — I think the vulgarity of the scar on top of otherwise pristine flesh brings out something that’s otherwise hidden. Yes, I also have a J.G. Ballard-esque car crash fetish.

Thanks to a revenant for the photo (and the 14ga sternum piercing is by Matt at Mystic in Crofton, MD).

  • Awww…

Thanks to my friend SilverSweets in Singapore for this “matching mods” photo of a series of forearm implants and a cutting (lots more great shots on her page):

  • Daddy, where do stars come from?

Like many things enjoyed in America, stars come from Mexico, build by the blood, sweat, tears, and yes, even flesh, of the Hispanic proletariat. These photos were smuggled out by my friend Abel at the star production factory Evolution here in Mexico.

    “The more you know…”

  • High-res Scarification Video

I was doing some codec testing earlier today to decide what I should be using, and I thought that I ought to share the test video publicly. This is a 1:45 long clip of Lukas Zpira doing a giant Tibettan cutting and skin removal on IAM:Whitespace (featured here before).

Oh, and I should say that this isn’t edited nicely or anything like that. It’s just a few randomly chosen segments from three hours of DV. When I have time I’ll post a proper version. And finally, since I’m always asked, the music playing in the background is a cover of Science Fiction Double Feature (from RHPS) by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.

  • Anchor Cuttings

I’ve showed work by the brilliant scarification artist Dave Gillstrap here before, but he just got back from an art tour in Vancouver and I’d like to post this shot to show how he builds up a cutting. Dave has a unique form of textural cutting that allows him to both create bold outlines that hold the piece together, but also “shading” using a series of lighter cuts.

Here’s a fresh example of his work on IAM:taryn:

I’ll try and remember to post a healed picture of this in six months, but do check out some of his other work on ModBlog like the geisha scar or this bodysuit… and he also has a mini-portfolio on BME.

  • Scarification Videos

Here’s a quick pair of scarification videos for you. The image quality isn’t the greatest on either of them, which is unfortunate because in each case it’s a very nice example of cutting art.

Whitespace getting his nipple cut by Dave Gillstrap. You can check out our previous post on his Buddhism-themed scarification bodysuit project (which also contains cutting work by other artists).

Warren gets his geometric arm cutting extended by Tom Brazda in Toronto… While a very qualified and experienced piercer, Tom’s only recently been getting seriously into cutting and I really like this piece a lot — you shoudl take the time to visit Warren’s page to see the photos.
