  • The next time I have to come in here I’m crackin’ skulls

    According to Efix, this skull is massive.  Unfortunately, I can’t tell where it is on the body, so it’s hard to get scale.  Plus if you’ve ever met Efix, a lot of things are big to him.

    Now Efix is going to be in Australia over the next few weeks, so if you’re down there, stop by and say hi.  I’m not sure if he’s fully booked or not, but I know he likes to have visitors.  Also, he’s been dying to be a BMEBoy for a while, so if you can get a really good photo of him, send it in.  In the meantime, check out more of his work in his BME portfolio gallery.

    When it comes to scarification pieces, sometimes a detailed cutting isn’t what the person being scarred wants.  Sickpuppie here had his scars done by Kelly D, which fit nicely with his series of five microdermals.  Asymmetrical pieces such as this always evoke reactions from people, either positive or negative, simply because the human brain is wired to look for symmetry.  Combining the asymmetry with a minimalistic design really makes this project stand out as something fairly unique.

    It also looks like one of his nipple piercings is diagonal while the other is horizontal.  You can see more scars, both minimal and elaborate in the scarification galleries.

    Kat Michitsch from Ultimate Tattoo & Body Piercing in Toronto sent in a number of photos from the first session of a scarification backpiece.  The map will eventually be an old world topographical map with the landmasses and oceans reversed.

  • Mother Nature

    With everything going on in Australia lately, some may think that the earth has it out for them.  Of course, this isn’t the case and they’ve just had a horrible string of luck lately.  This does still make some think of the earth, as well as those mythological figures people have attributed to the planet over the centuries.  In Greek mythology, Gaia (or Gaea) was the primal goddess of the earth, the forerunner to Mother Nature.  Taking a look at this blackwork/cutting combination you can see how even today the myths stay strong.

    Of course this could be a cutting dedicated to a person, or possibly the video game.  In any case, the flowing script provides a nice contrast against the black and the other writing on the wrist.

  • Peace on Earth…

    While many people are focused on all the glitz and glamor of the holidays, for some this time of year is about reflection.  To look back at the year and take it all in.  Amidst all the hustle and bustle too many of us can get swept up, forgetting to take some time to ourselves and just breathe.  Take INvalidSYNapse here.   After finishing up a fairly large scarification piece, he’s taking a moment of quiet reflection.  You can see in his face the satisfaction that he must be feeling for having gone through the process of the cutting and come out on the other side closer with himself that he may have ever been before.

    So remember to take some time for yourself over the coming weeks.  And just live in a moment, even if it’s just a brief one, letting all your cares float away and giving yourself some peace.

  • A present isn’t complete without a bow

    Leave it to Santa John give us all a great present for the holidays.  The present of course is this exquisite bow cutting.  While it may be a simple design, in the hands of John it turns into a perfectly executed scar that is just ridiculously clean.

  • Now witness the firepower of this fully scarred and branded battle station

    He’s done it again folks.  Brian has managed to blend scarification and branding together to create a brilliant replication of the Death Star from Return of the Jedi.  On top of that he’s added a Darth Vader scar to go along side it.  According to Brian this is just the beginning of an entire Scar Wars sleeve, in which the wearer will eventually incorporate tattooing to compliment the scars.

    Brian is also going to be appearing at the Philly Tattoo convention next year and has some open spots available if you’re looking to get some scar work done.

  • Stitching up a broken heart

    We’ve seen plenty of heart shaped scarification pieces on ModBlog, but I think this is the first time we’ve seen a broken heart scar that uses sutures as part of the scarification process.  Jesse Villareal of Main Street Tattoo in Merced, CA sent in this recent scar that he did, and in the process nearly doubled the amount of photos in the suture scarification gallery.  We can easily assume the main part of the heart will be identifiable as a scar, but it’ll be interesting to see how the suture scars heal, and how they’ll look in combination with the rest of the piece.

  • Movember Mourning

    Well, this is the final Movember Monday post for the year.  It’s been a great month, and we’ve seen a lot of fantastic mustaches.  For some people the end of the month means a day to shave away that band of brilliance upon their upper lip, yet to others it becomes a point of pride, a light in the darkness, a place to grow not only an epic mustache, but a beard as well!  So while Movember is finished, Bearduary is just around the corner, so get those beards growing!

    Now to celebrate the end of the month, lets take a look at one of the finest mustaches that has been submitted in the past month.  While I don’t know the name of the gentleman pictured below, I do know that the claw scars on his shoulders were done by IAM: Dark freak from Brazil.
