A tattooed person suspends from hooks, laying flat, one leg higher than the other. Their head is back, and they seem to be smiling, dark hair dangling like an anime character.

  • Angel Wings Surface Piercing

This wild surface piercing project was done by Sean Dowdell and Burni at Club Tattoo in Tempe, AZ — photo by Sean Hartgrove.

Edit: These are microdermals, and are three months old and healing well in this photo.

  • Microdermal and Piercings

The microdermal is the one in front of metaldready‘s tragus, done at L’Extremiste in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

  • Infinity brand

This large electrocautery brand is freshly done in this photo, by Shawn O’Hare at Fillmore Tattoo and Piercing in Fillmore, CA. Visually I love the placement, but depending on the way she scars it might be hard to get it to heal evenly… (Note for the not-sharp-eyed: check out the microdermals too!).

  • Microdermals and Staples

Ryan Ouellette from PBA did these microdermals and flesh stapling on Rumiko while he was on tour in Japan. Foreheads tend to heal really well, so I imagine this will look pretty solid in the long run.

  • The Mote in Tattoo’s Eye

A customer of Evan‘s (Color Works in West Des Moines, IA) asked him to have the eye he had tattooed on “shine” — here comes a microdermal to the rescue! Anyway, that’s it for today (sorry), but I’ve been thinking about the ModBlog Scrapbook idea a bit more and I’d be happy to take the time to assemble it if people are interested — it would basically be a print “best of” for ModBlog since it began in August 2005.

  • Chest Microdermal Jewelry

James Wisniewski (Body Electric, Hollwood CA) did this 6mm titanium prong faced CZ microdermal recently… I think I remember someone commenting on how microdermals were interesting to them because they opened up a whole lot of body decorating options that were not available before except through procedures arguably in the “[very] minor surgery” category rather than “piercing” category like microdermals are. I suppose this helps illustrate that notion.

  • I thought it was a urethral reroute!

…but it turns out that Wizzer, Squ3z, and Tyler (Anomaly Studios, Pasadena CA) have done the world’s first guiche microdermal. Well, I suppose if you want to test the durability and survivability of this procedure (more), this is a good way to do it.

  • Roses

Hahaha, I thought her fingers were a nipple when I first glanced at the picture. Oh, wishful thinking from a sideboob lover I suppose. New school tattoo by the very talented Jay Marceau at D-Markation in Quebec City, Canada.

Anyway… Enjoy today’s update, and if you haven’t already, don’t forget to check out the recent additions to BME/News:

I think for “BME 2007″ (our 13th year!) I’m going to integrate ModBlog, QOD, BMEnews, and so on all into a single content system… There are so many different sections on BME that should be combined I think (not easy when you have to convert a massive 1995-style CMS!).

  • Microdermal Forhead Mohawk

Thanks to John Durante at Laughing Buddha in Seattle for sending in this shot of a great looking set of microdermals (imagine something half way between a transdermal implant and a dermal anchor if you don’t already know the technique).
