    Here is your chance to help someone else do some good. We received the following note from IAM member, Taryn:

    I’ve entered myself into a contest to win a volunteering trip to Africa. I really, really love Africa and was able to travel there in February of 2009 where I spent four weeks in Tanzania as a volunteer teacher. I loved every moment of it and I’m dying to go back, but I simply can’t afford it. I was pretty excited when a friend told me about this contest so I entered right away. I entered around January 28th and voting had already started on January 3rd, but with some dedicated and extremely helpful friends I made it into the top 10 within two days! I have to stay in the Top 10 until February 7th at midnight in order to make it to the semifinals – at which point votes are re-set, and everyone must vote again like mad to get me into the Top 3. Then, a panel of judges decide who wins the trip. Voting is limited to one vote per email address; enter your address and then click the confirmation link in the email they send you. To vote for me, one may visit: votetaryn. I’ve also created a Facebook page that people may join to help spread the word, I post updates there as well and will send a reminder when (if) I make it into the Top 10 and votes have been reset for the semi-finals!

    My new friend, Anthony, is a  young body piercer and talented guitar player from Pittsburgh, PA. When I asked him what inspired him to get pretty extensive  facial work at such a young age (19) this was his response:

    I decided to take the step of tattooing my face after a lot of thought. It ended with the result that no job, person, parent, or social stigma should be allowed to have higher authority over my own body then I do. The everyday battle for control over your own body is unimaginable. It seems to be able to modify yourself in any way you must first endure a showering of opinions, discouragement and pressure. So to break free from that is something to be said for anybody who modifies themselves.

    Before getting it done I looked deep inside myself and meditated on the decision for a long while before iI knew that it was right. Since the day it was done I have felt like it should have been there all along, and I have never felt more spiritually in tune with myself.

    Its a liberating experience, I recommend it to anyone!

  • An often overlooked form of body modification

    Wow, it would appear as if corsetry hasn’t been featured on Modblog since WAY back in 2006! I bet a lot of current readers don’t even realize the semi-permanent and permanent changes to one’s body that can be created using something that is now often considered just a fashion accessory. These pictures were in the November 2009, BME  corsetry & binding galleries and I am quite pleased to be able to feature them now.

    So when I posted this cutting by Efix Roy a modblog commenter by the name of Tsarik left this comment:

    >>so many of these cuttings look excellent when freshly done. do the wearers or artists have the foresight for how it will look when finished? so few of these cuttings are worth looking at when actually healed.<<

    I understand her scepticism. I am generally of the “bold will hold” mindset , especially when it comes to scars. However, with the caliber of some of the artist that do these detailed cuttings, you should not be surprised to know a lot of them heal magnificently.

    A perfect example of that is this awesome cutting that was done by Jonz of Sideshow Tattoo in Boise Idaho and Wayde Dunn.

    See, a modblog commenter asked ,and I answered. I am trying to make sure modblog covers what it’s readers want to see.     Whether you celebrate tonight by ingesting alcohol or injecting saline (or neither) have a safe, fun night and a great start to 2010. I hope to continue entertaining, educating, challenging and disturbing modblog readers throughout 2010. Here’s a sampling of what I have in store for 2010:

    -An in depth look into the life of BME’s punk rock anti-hero perk900.

    -Lots more From The Vault features.

    -Interviews with some of the most fascinating people on BME who most would never hear of otherwise. I really want to get one with Tiger shark man a true man of the sea, who lives on a boat and has filed his own teeth down to be more shark like.

    -I will continue to use words like “taint” just so Ian McKown will continue to have something to bitch about.

    -And of course, plenty of sexy women, modified genitals and tattoos that make you go “hmmmm”.

  • Testing the waters

    I make jokes of things that upset me, that is how I deal with things and I know I am not alone in doing so. So when I saw uptown’s “Daddy, No!” tattoo, I shot her a message on IAM. I wanted to know if this was indeed her way of dealing with some horrific childhood experience, or if she just had a crude sense of humor.

    She responded assuring me that there was “no deep rooted family stuff”. Apparently, she calls her boyfriend, Troy, “Daddy” and this was “just an amusing  idea” to her.

    I think it’s quite amusing myself, although it may be a bit discouraging for Troy when he’s trying to get some oral. What do you guys think?
