A tattooed person suspends from hooks, laying flat, one leg higher than the other. Their head is back, and they seem to be smiling, dark hair dangling like an anime character.

  • Suspending Passion

To the great many people out there that suspend, it can easily become a strong passion in their life.  Southtownbaby is one such person.  We’ve seen her on ModBlog before with her bird of paradise scar.  Today, we get to see her enjoying something she has a passion for.  As a bonus, she’s even shared with us something special, just to show you how much suspending means to her.

The ressurection suspension was facilitated by Hanging City Suspensions down in Fort Smith, AZ.

This 3-D implant was designed and crafted by Steve Haworth, and was put in by JesseStar

Well, that’s it for 2010 ModBlog.  I hope everyone has a fun and safe new year’s eve.  And remember, you’re always welcome to join me and the rest of the BME staff at the BME NYE Party!  Just check the event listing for all the details.

  • New Year’s BMEBoy

Well for some odd reason, there aren’t any heavily modified babies to have as the BME New Year’s baby, so you’ll have to do with a BMEBoy instead.  Now, as the baby is normally portrayed pushing aside an old man with a beard, it’ll be only fitting if Evan here were to start growing his beard again for the new year.  Who knows, maybe by this time next year he’ll have himself a nice epic beard to help usher in a new BMEBoy for 2012.

Among Evan’s many piercings are his stretched lobes, a few nostril piercings, a medusa, a large gauge cartilage piercing, and while you can’t see it, he’s also got himself a fairly large septum.

  • All in the family

This pair of handsome fellows are the brother and son of IAM:krush3dr3amz.  The little man insisted on getting a dragon tattoo, and sure enough Junk, from Junkyard Studios in Hialeah, FL was happy to oblige.  By the looks of it, I’d say he’s pretty happy with the results.  Who knows, in another 10 years or so, those doodles may end up being real tattoos and we could be seeing him on ModBlog again.

  • Having your heart on your mind

The last time we saw ThundaKat79 she had just gotten her third eye microdermal put in.  Since then, she’s added a new type of modification to her extensive collection, a subdermal implant of a heart on her forehead.  With the vast array of visible modifications she has, this new one fits right in.  Now the photo was taken soon after it was put in, so hopefully she’ll continue to send in photos of it as it heals up.

  • The Cover-up

The interesting thing about tattoo cover-ups is how the artist chooses to use the space that is being covered.  It also depends on what the client wants as well.  Ideally the end result will be that the original tattoo is no longer visible, and for the most part that happens.  But what about that transition period?  The time when the cover-up starts, to when it is finished.  For large pieces with multiple sessions, this period could last weeks, if not months.  While this is going on something unique is formed, a blending of the two tattoos, where the old and new combine to make something uniquely beautiful.

An perfect example of this beauty is Siren’s chest piece.  With just the black outline and some shading done on the new skull tattoo, the bright colors of the old can be seen through the lines, resulting in a stunning image of a piece of art in transition.

  • They’re getting hitched!

I heard on the radio last week that christmas eve is the #1 day of the year for wedding proposals.  Sure enough, this christmas that held true and a couple of IAM members got engaged.  Now, you’ve seen Dirk and JackeeLynn on here before, most recently in their christmas photos.  Now if you don’t know these two, not only do they send in a lot of photos to BME, but they’re also part of the Local Hookers suspension crew.  Here’s a couple of photos from their last halloween bash.  (You can find a lot more in the Local Hookers gallery).

Here’s Dirk enjoying a beer after lifting a cinderblock by his neck.  He also happens to be taking a beating from some lightbulbs.

As for Jackee, she spent the night hanging out with another Local Hooker, Inhale-Exhale.

Of course the best part of getting engaged is the story behind it.  Now I wasn’t there, but from what I understand Dirk surprised her with the ring and something else in a box…

Congrats you two!  When do I get my invitation?

  • Underneath the mistletoe

While the holidays may be over for some, for others they’re just about to hit the boiling point.  When you take away the presents, the lights, the overt religious symbolisms, what you’re left with is the time of year that you and your loved ones can get together.  Take Sloppynobody and Stainedskin1982, these two lovebirds are engaged to be married, and judging by this photo are pretty happy with each other.  So while you may not be in the same place as these two, take some time over the next little while and spend some time with those who mean the most to you.

On a side note, there won’t be any updates tomorrow, so if you’re celebrating christmas this weekend, or some other holiday, enjoy your weekend, and be safe.

Oh, and if you don’t have plans for New Year’s Eve yet, BME is hosting a bash at BME Headquarters just outside Richmond, VA.  Check the event page for all the details.  Hope to see you there!

  • Octopus!

Now this is awesome.  John Joyce sent this is in a couple of days ago and I haven’t been able to stop looking at it since.  But that could be just because I’m a Lovecraft fan, so anything resembling C’thulhu catches my eye.

Now John asked me to pass on a message to the ModBlog readers.  The Philly convention is only a couple of months away and he does have some spots available for scar work, so if you’ve ever wanted to get a scar done by John, now is your chance.  You can get in touch with him through IAM, or at his studio, Scarab Body Arts in Syracuse, NY

  • Baby’s almost first x-mas

Mom-to-be Rebecca has a lot to be happy about this holiday season.  She’s about a month away from becoming a mother to what is sure to be a good looking baby.  How do I know it’s going to be a good looking baby you ask?  Well look at these genetics.

To see a photo of the whole family together, keep reading…

Now if you don’t know who Rebecca is, she’s an IAM member who’s been featured on ModBlog, not once, but twice!

You can check out more pictures of her on her page, as well as in the large gauge lip piercings gallery.

  • The Friday Follow-up

We’re going to kick off Friday with a big black arm.  While I was digging through the archives to find a great pair of before and after shots I realized it had been a while since we’ve seen scarification over top of blackwork in a while.  Thankfully the_absolute sent in this pair of pictures of a scar he did earlier in the year.

    Fresh

Keep on reading to see how the scar turned out.

    Healed

I love how well this turned out.  At first glance you wouldn’t even know it was a scar.  You can check out more of Iestyn’s work in his scarification portfolio gallery.

The single most asked question when it comes to scarification and branding photos is “what will it look like healed”.   So we’re always on the look out for fresh/healed scar photos, so if you’re an artist who would like to be featured in the follow-up, or you’re someone who has scar work done, please send in your photos.
