A tattooed person suspends from hooks, laying flat, one leg higher than the other. Their head is back, and they seem to be smiling, dark hair dangling like an anime character.

  • Abstract Dots

It’s pretty clear that when it comes to dotwork tattoos, Sonja is one of the best working artists of the day.  However she isn’t defined by just her dots.  Check out this abstract piece that she did recently.  It still incorporates dotwork, as you can see in the shoulder, but the back is full of seemingly random patterns.

  • Hidden Buddha

There’s so much going on here and all of it works together beautifully.

  • Spiral Nebula

Here’s another dotwork tattoo by Sonja.  This one was inspired by crop circles, and you can really see how precise she can be when she does geometric designs.  I think what stands out most for me is that it isn’t about the dots, but rather the negative spaces that make up the core of the tattoo.

  • A burst of colour

Mind = Blown.  That’s what I think whenever Sonja Punktum sends in a photo of her latest dotwork creation.

  • Stars and stripes

Alright so this isn’t a patriotic tattoo, but it is an unbelievable rendering of a starburst/flower with some stripes underneath it.  If you haven’t guessed by now, the artist is Vincent Hocquet, who is consistently sending in mind-blowing designs.  This one in particular was done at the Sydney tattoo convention a few months back.  As anyone who has been to a convention knows, the floor of the convention is a pretty hectic place, and for Vincent to put out such a precise and detailed piece is just a testament to his skill.

Vincent works at Beautiful Freak Tattoo in St. Idesbald, Belgium.
