A tattooed person suspends from hooks, laying flat, one leg higher than the other. Their head is back, and they seem to be smiling, dark hair dangling like an anime character.

  • Abstract Dots

It’s pretty clear that when it comes to dotwork tattoos, Sonja is one of the best working artists of the day.  However she isn’t defined by just her dots.  Check out this abstract piece that she did recently.  It still incorporates dotwork, as you can see in the shoulder, but the back is full of seemingly random patterns.

  • Hidden Buddha

There’s so much going on here and all of it works together beautifully.

Tattoo by Sonja, Punktum Tattoo, Germany.

  • Spiral Nebula

Here’s another dotwork tattoo by Sonja.  This one was inspired by crop circles, and you can really see how precise she can be when she does geometric designs.  I think what stands out most for me is that it isn’t about the dots, but rather the negative spaces that make up the core of the tattoo.

  • A burst of colour

Mind = Blown.  That’s what I think whenever Sonja Punktum sends in a photo of her latest dotwork creation.

  • Stars and stripes

Alright so this isn’t a patriotic tattoo, but it is an unbelievable rendering of a starburst/flower with some stripes underneath it.  If you haven’t guessed by now, the artist is Vincent Hocquet, who is consistently sending in mind-blowing designs.  This one in particular was done at the Sydney tattoo convention a few months back.  As anyone who has been to a convention knows, the floor of the convention is a pretty hectic place, and for Vincent to put out such a precise and detailed piece is just a testament to his skill.

Vincent works at Beautiful Freak Tattoo in St. Idesbald, Belgium.

  • The Master at Work

Time and time again, Vincent Hocquet’s designs have blown our collective minds.  How he manages to weave in spiritual symbols with geometric shapes and abstract art.  He is truly a master at what he does.  Here he is at work on his friend Rob’s bodysuit, which is turning out beautifully.

  • What’s black and red and inked all over?

It’s easy, Michael Kozlenko‘s latest client.  There’s so much going on in this chest/shoulder/arm piece, and all of it is awesome.  Each section is unique, yet they all tie so well together.  Have a look for yourself.

You can check out more of Michael’s work in the Kipod Tattoo Portfolio.

  • Lost in the design

I seriously could look at Sonja‘s works for hours.  Her geometric stippling tattoos are consistently phenomenal, both in technique and design.  What I like most about this particular design is that it maintains it’s proportions across the entire piece, adjusting to the various curves and shapes of the leg.

  • Building on greatness

We’ve established in the past that Vincent Hocquet’s dotwork pieces are mind-bendingly awesome.  Today we’re going to look back on a piece that was first featured last August, and how far along it’s progressed since then.  So here’s how the sleeve started out.  A massive undertaking that blended geometry and flowers to create a beautiful image.

Then again, back in March, we saw this same sleeve, but the focus was on the latest addition, an all-seeing eye on the chest.  It also gave us a chance to see just how detailed the sleeve itself was.  What we thought was initially solid shapes turned out to be dotwork that was conforming to a perfect geometric shape.

Which brings us to today where the latest addition has taken the piece from his right shoulder, all the way across his chest.

Given how much blank skin there is on that lucky guy, I’d imagine we’re in for more from Vincent.  Be sure to check out more of his work in his BME portfolio gallery.

  • What is this? I don’t even.

Forgive the confusing title.  I’m currently nursing my addled brain back to competency after staring at this Vincent Hocquet piece for the past hour.

I sense a trip to Beautiful Freak Tattoo in Belgium in my future.
