A tattooed person suspends from hooks, laying flat, one leg higher than the other. Their head is back, and they seem to be smiling, dark hair dangling like an anime character.

  • The Friday Follow-up

Oh what a tangled web we weave.  Three years ago, when Anders did this heart/web combination, who could have thought it would turn out the way it did.

Three years is a pretty long time, which makes this follow-up one of the longest time differences so far.  Keep on reading to see how it healed up.

What I think is most interesting is that the heart appears to have puffed out slightly, while parts of the web appear almost indented into the skin.  There are more photos of this scar in Anders’ portfolio gallery if you want some closer looks.

  • Made in Australia

You can take a man out of Australia, but you’ll never be able to take Australia out of this man.

Scarification artist Anders, who is also a proud Aussie, carved out this particular scar.  If you happen to be around the Gold Coast, stop by Flesh Impressions to pay Anders a visit.

  • Resistance is futile

    You will be assimilated.

The assimilation of pharmaecopia was performed by geRi of Swastika Tattoo, located in the Budapest quadrant in the Hungary galaxy.

  • Calling all Japanese translators!

BME is hiring, and we’re looking for Japanese/English translators.  We’ve got hundreds of hours worth of footage from the Japan leg of the BME World Tour that needs translating.  So if you’re fluent in both Japanese and English, capable of translating between the two, and are able to transcribe the dialogue with the proper time codes, then we’ve got the job for you.  You’ll be able to work from home, and it is a paid position.

If you’re interested in the position and want to join the BME team, please send your qualifications and/or any questions you may have to [email protected] with the subject line “World Tour – Japanese Translator Job”.

Now for something completely different, here’s a massive back scar that has healed up a bit.  Everyone’s favorite scrotum suspender, Lassi did this huge piece back in his home town of Helsinki, Finland at his studio.

  • The art of life is to show your hand

Gabor, the minimalist scarification artist/tattoo artist from Budapest has done it again with a nice looking hand scar. What’s great about Gabor is that his unique designs embrace a minimalistic abstract style of art, both in terms of design and execution.

  • Lassi + Logo =

    A fantastic looking scar.

It seems that when he’s not suspending by his scrotum, Lassi is quite the accomplished body modification artist.  In fact, he was the first one to take advantage of the new gallery format for artists.  Now because Lassi does more than just scarification, instead of making a portfolio for everything he does, we’ve created a section for him and other body modification artists that allows them to compile all of their assorted works into one gallery.

If you’re interested in setting up a gallery for yourself, simply e-mail [email protected] and let us know what type of gallery you’d like opened up for yourself.  Categories include scarification, tattooing, piercing, suspension teams, modification artists and more.  If you run a studio and want to post work from all your artists, we can do that too.

  • The Friday Follow-up

Since I started this weekly column last year I’ve seen hundreds of scarification pieces, all in various stages of completion.  I can honestly say that each and every scar I’ve seen is unique not only in terms of the artist behind the scar, but also in how the person heals afterwards.  Which brings us to this week’s scar.  Two years ago Anders cut this rose design into a client’s side.

In the two years since it was cut this scar has transformed into something incredible, which if you want to see, you’ll have to keep reading.

I honestly can’t say I’ve ever seen a scar heal up in this way before.  Normally scars that are raised like this are pink, while pale scars are often faded.  Not so here, where the scar is both raised and the exact same skin tone as the flesh around it.

Anders sent in quite a few healed scars in the past week, including a few like this one that are over two years old.   Check them out in his portfolio gallery.

If you’re an artist and you don’t have your own portfolio gallery yet, simply send an e-mail to [email protected] and we’ll get you set up with one.  A couple people asked me if there is a fee to get a gallery, and I can tell you right now that there is no fees involved.  Simply send off a request and specify whether you’re a tattoo artist, scarification artist, piercer, studio, or suspension crew.

  • Want to work for BME?

We’re still looking for a translator for the hundreds of hours of video footage taken on the Japan leg of last year’s BME World Tour.  If you’re fluent in both Japanese and English, and are able to not only translate, but also transcribe the dialogue with the appropriate time codes, then this job may be for you.  You’ll be able to work from home, and get a paycheck while doing it.

If you’re interested in the position and want to join the BME team, please send your qualifications and/or any questions you may have to [email protected] with the subject line “World Tour – Japanese Translator Job”.

While we’re on the subject of all things Japanese, Efix Roy, that handsome devil from D-Markation in Quebec, just carved an awesome recreation of the Kamakura Buddha into someone’s arm.

Be sure to check out more of Efix’s work in his BME portfolio gallery.

  • Mr. Cupcakes, I presume?

Another shot today from a portfolio gallery, this one from the scarification master himself, John Joyce.

Showing off this Johnny Cupcakes logo scar, tieherdown must either really like cupcakes, or t-shirts, or possibly both.

  • Hey man, nice shot

It’s Monday morning, and that either means you’re crawling out of bed blindly reaching for the coffee, or you’re someplace other than North America, which means you’re probably going about your Monday still wishing it was the weekend.  Ryan Ouellette is one scarification artist who makes Mondays worth getting up for.

Working out of Precision Body Arts in Nashua, NH, Ryan did up this scar on the leg of apathykiss.  I’m Canadian so I can’t really tell exactly what kind of gun this is.  I’m sure someone will be able to figure it out.  In the meantime you can check out more scars in the scarification gallery.
