A tattooed person suspends from hooks, laying flat, one leg higher than the other. Their head is back, and they seem to be smiling, dark hair dangling like an anime character.

  • It’s all about the angle

I am sure modblog reader are familiar with “the myspace angle”, you know, the one where people hold the camera way up high and photograph themselves below. That angle has been proven to be able to take off well over a hundred pounds if used correctly. In a similar fashion photographers often take pictures looking up at there subject, therefore creating the illusion of the subject towering over them.

Well that is exactly what photographer Simon Jacobs did when photographing Dave Bastard for this picture. You see I knew Dave on IAM years before meeting him. From his pictures I thought he was a giant beast of a man, boy was I shocked to see he was just a few inches above oompa loompa height!

Don’t let his small stature fool you though; with his extensive tattooing, muscular physique and extensive gun collection he is one bad ass MoFu! He is also one of the best blackwork tattoo artist in North America, a continent that often overlooks top notch blackwork by stigmatizing it as “tribal”. Check out Dave and his wife Lea’s work here.

  • Ask him about his subincision

Want to know the answer to the question?

If the question was “What is a subinicision?”, or “What does an erect subincision look like?” I think this picture answers those pretty well.

  • A Family Affair

BME is turning into a real Yente, forever playing matchmaker.  I’m not sure if that’s how DTM and his beautiful new wife, Bri Bri, met each other, but it’s always great when IAM members send us their wedding pictures.  I know it warms this cold heart!

Keeping it all in the family, DTM tells us that the majority of the work you see on the guests was done by himself and his brother Patrick (IAM: patrickryanross).  The brothers work out of DTM’s shop, Art to Zen in Rochester, New York.  The photography, which I think is absolutely stellar, was done by Tellierstudios.com of Seneca Falls, New York.  You can see more of the couples’ gorgeous wedding after the jump.

  • Penguin Boy

I first met Penguin Boy when I worked at Art With A Pulse in Glen Burnie, MD. The shop  owner bet me he could do a full sleeve from scratch in less than an hour on a client of his….I fell for it, he won the bet.

Since then Penguin Boy  (Jason Brott) has made quite a name for himself in the sideshow world travelling with the Hellzapoppin Sideshow.

Here he is doing a 2 point suspension as photographed by our very own Allen Falkner.

If you want to know more about the World Famous Penguin Boy, leave some comments here and I will see if he is interested in doing an interview for BME.

  • Who doesn’t do this?

One of the biggest “trends” in body modification “fashion” has been the decorative threaded end. I’ve seen Body Vision‘s assortment and it’s pretty killer, especially with everyone from gangster dudes to soccer mom’s sporting the tear drop microdermal these days. It’s a way to customize the jewelry for yourself and I think it’s pretty cool. I don’t know if this 14k yellow gold anchor is one of theirs but they make all kinds of threaded ends to suit whatever your needs are. This is Allen and he apparently did the microdermal himself at Superfly Tattoo in San Diego, California.

  • This one gets tricky

I really like this branding. I’m not sure why it’s so appealing to me but it’s incredibly striking. grundstuck‘s seemingly perfect circles were carefully electrocauterized by Quentin at Kalima in Worthing, UK.

  • It’s good to be alive.

I think that if the first thing you saw in the morning was someone who looked genuinely happy then you’d have a really good day. dead filmaker is helping me test out my theory. I know it put a smile on my face to start the morning off right.

  • Is that a threat or a promise?

Dark Freak is certainly looking the part for his IAM name. Thiago Marzano snapped this shot of him in Brasil and it definitely doesn’t change my opinion that all of the BME Brasilian members are either heavily modded, good looking or both. 2010 is going to be a busy year because I already have plans to go to Japan, Italy and most certainly I’ll be heading to Brasil. I’m hoping we can put together a big Brasilian BME BBQ because that would be tons of fun. I can only imagine what beautiful tropical setting we can fill with BME’ers!
