A tattooed person suspends from hooks, laying flat, one leg higher than the other. Their head is back, and they seem to be smiling, dark hair dangling like an anime character.

  • As the corvid flies…

VenomVyxen uploaded this piece entitled “Corvid Cluster” to BME the other day.  At first glance I didn’t think too much of it, but after getting a closer look at the crow’s head, and seeing the detail in it contrasted against the cluster of crows making up the body it really stood out.  Now I know some people may think that this particular style of image may be too “trendy” or “overused”, but does it matter?  It’s a wonderful piece of art that both the artist and recipient are happy with; and to me, that’s what matters most.

It’s Friday morning, only a few hours left in the week before the weekend gets into full swing.  So try to get through today as the crow flies: as quickly as possible, and in a straight line to the weekend.

  • Where is the fish?

This amazingly colourful piece was submitted by Fabrizio Divari.  You can find Fabrizio at his studio, Fabrizio Divari Art in Toronto which also contains contact information if you’re looking to get some work done by him.  While this is a work in progress and I don’t know what’s planned for it, I think it would be really cool if the fish remained the only parts of the tattoo with colour.  I also really like how the blues and greens are pulled through into each of the fish.

Of course, Fabrizio isn’t new to the ModBlog world.  You can read his BME interview from 2008 here.

You can see more of Fabrizio’s work in his mini portfolio on BME. Have a fun and safe weekend folks!

  • Do you like fish sticks?

Radiobath sends us this colourful Betta inked by Lauchie from Visible Ink in Saugus, MA. Ok, I apologize for the title of this entry. I couldn’t help myself. I really love the vibrancy of a fresh tattoo and the purple shades in this one are gorgeous.

  • If it wasn’t for this tattoo, dinosaurs may still roam the Earth

There was a big update to the beta.bmezine.com recently, so I have  plenty of picking for modblog to last me a while. Unfortunately, a stomach virus got the best of me today, so one post is all I am gonna be able to knock out. Hopefully, I will wake up over this damn illness tomorrow and can get back on track.

When it comes to concepts for back pieces, this definitely ranks amongst the most original and well executed I have come across. This tattoo by Alex Vidaud of Nautilus Tattoo depicts the mass extinction of dinosaurs. They have plans of continuing the scene down his butt and to the backs of his knees with prehistoric underwater ocean.

On a side note, this piece won an award at the ’09 Paradise Tattoo Gathering.

  • Take that Damon Wayans!

I love cheesy reinterpretations of pop culture icons and ideals, and this piece by IAM member (and regular modblog commenter), Adam Burdine, is a prime example of just that.

One part movie reference+ one part currently trendy traditional style shark tattoo=  one very rad and creative piece.

  • Yet another cut off cock head on Modblog…

…but this one doesn’t even require a click through!

  • Try as I might…

…I couldn’t come up with anything witty to say about this tattoo that did not include the word “horny”.

So for the sake of my editorial professionalism, I will just say these antlers were done by Zack at Uptown Tattoo in Minneapolis.

  • Nom!

My dog once ate butter. Let’s just say, it didn’t end well. Luckily, this tattoo by Corey from Black Cat Tattoo does not produce the same results!
