This seems to be a cover up, and a hell of a way to cover something in my opinion! Solid black over existing tattoos sometimes will leave you with a “ghost” of the covered tattoo where you can see the lines underneath. The scars here really do wonders to break up an outline!

Call me soft but fingernail and toenail modification is one of the few things I just cant get desensitized to. These were uploaded by MAX! in 2009 and if you’re still out there MAX! We’d love to see a follow up!

From what I can gather this was an attempt to prevent nail regrowth by using a soldering iron. I’m not sure what the long term effectiveness was on this but it is an interesting concept none the less.

I’m not sure if Thunvall chopped his luscious locks off for this photo but it is still an interesting juxtaposition from one side to the other.
Either way I like the put together look and you know I’m a sucker for nice paired piercings! It might not seem like a huge body modification but I know from experience that chopping long hair off can feel as significant as a tattoo or piercing if not more.

Long shot or not, you don’t see many visibly modified folks running for a political office. I’d like you all to meet James Harrison Nixon.

James is running for Georgia Senate District 30 right now. No matter what the outcome and no matter what your political affiliation might be it is really great to see someone pushing the limits of what it is “acceptable” for the heavily modified to accomplish.
I think James is quite brave for throwing himself into such a tough market and I’m here to give him two major thumbs up. Good luck dude!

Polareyez was kind enough to submit this photo of their four day old solar brand.
Now this photo hits home for me because back in 2008 when I was but a mere 17 years old, My best pal and I were featured on ModBlog by Shannon. Here’s the link to the original post. When you get done cracking up at my baby face, you’ll notice that we’re also branding triangles on each other. Believe it or not that was one of the more significant modifications in my life. The triangle symbolized my friend and I taking in another friend on a special night. The branding was highly ritualized and we took the photos specifically to share with BME. It was a really important bonding experience with one of my best friends that we’ll always remember. I actually remember the day I saw it on ModBlog thinking that it was the most significant day of my life, and that I belonged to this community.
I’m sharing this little story with you because while this is not the most intense, extreme, eye catching, or conventionally “beautiful” piece of scarification…you can never tell the weight that something so simple can carry. My little triangle changed my entire life, and you can’t even see it today. In life you never seem to know when your turning points will be, but the thing that I love about this community is that you always have a reminder of where you’ve been.

While snooping around the Very Unusual Piercings I found this photo which is…very unusual. A double navel piercing uploaded by SaintMary in 2004 that is a bit more interesting than it might sound.
Two is better than one.
