As I promised, I was doing a series of amputation-related articles. This is the third in that series, and probably the last that I’ll post in a while on that vein. This one is a chat with two people who each decided to self-amputate a finger, disguised as an “accident”. Click through to read the article, and come back here to comment.

Faith Sterilizes, Right?

In a few days (just waiting back for a final set of questions) I’ll be posting an interview with Kamal Jeet Sharma about his tattoo studio in Ludhiana, Punjab and his efforts to professionalize tattooing in India. Mark from Everything and Nothing snapped this photo of some of Kamal’s typical “competition”, a street tattoo machine he saw in Northern India in the Himalayan foothills.

Lane (who I’ll be posting an interview with hopefully this week) took this photo of Sheena, who had this note-shaped silicone implant done by Brian at Pure Body Arts (Brooklyn, NY) while he was guesting at Lane’s shop in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Once-Ler’s House
Written by
I think the world would be a much better place if every kid had The Lorax, The Sneetches, and maybe Horton Hears a Who (and not this new bastardized movie version) in their libraries… I’ve read it to my daughter many, many times, so I was very happy to see this Dr. Seuss tattoo by Will Thompson at Outer Limits in Costa Mesa, California.
“But now,” says the Once-ler,
“Now that you’re here,
the word of the Lorax seems perfectly clear.
UNLESS someone like you
cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better.
It’s not.“SO…
Catch!” calls the Once-ler.
He lets something fall.
“It’s a Truffula Seed.
It’s the last one of all!
You’re in charge of the last of the Truffula Seeds.
And Truffula Trees are what everyone needs.
Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care.
Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air.
Grow a forest. Protect it from axes that hack.
The the Lorax
and all of his friends
may come back.”
