A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.
  • Kipod Tattoo pt.4

Today we’re going to be taking a look at the works of Michael Kozlenko, one of the many talented artists from Kipod Tattoo and Piercing in Tel Aviv.  We’ve featured works from Michael before, as well as other artists from Kipod.  Over the course of today you’ll be able to see a small preview of some of the many works that can be found in the Kipod Tattoo Portfolio.

In the final post of today’s artist profile, we’ll take a look at one of Michael’s non-portrait works.

Like the rest of today’s images, Michael sent in multiple pictures, highlighting each element of the tattoo.  By heading over to the Kipod gallery, you can see all of the smaller details in this piece.

  • Kipod Tattoo pt.3

Today we’re going to be taking a look at the works of Michael Kozlenko, one of the many talented artists from Kipod Tattoo and Piercing in Tel Aviv.  We’ve featured works from Michael before, as well as other artists from Kipod.  Over the course of today you’ll be able to see a small preview of some of the many works that can be found in the Kipod Tattoo Portfolio.

In this, the third of four posts, were going back to a portrait tattoo.  While the subject of the last portrait was somewhat traditional, this one is a bit more modern.

Looking up at the top right corner of the photo you can make out what appears to be a revolver sticking into the girl’s head.  This could mean this piece is just the start of a much larger one.

  • Kipod Tattoo pt.2

Today we’re going to be taking a look at the works of Michael Kozlenko, one of the many talented artists from Kipod Tattoo and Piercing in Tel Aviv.  We’ve featured works from Michael before, as well as other artists from Kipod.  Over the course of today you’ll be able to see a small preview of some of the many works that can be found in the Kipod Tattoo Portfolio.

The next tattoo(s) we’re going to take a look at are a pair of matching thigh pieces that depict the famous scene from Le Voyage dans la lune, the 1908 sci-fi film directed by Georges Méliès.

Even if you’ve never seen the film, the image of the rocket in the eye of the moon is such an iconic shot that many people recognize it without knowledge of the film.  You’ll notice that even though the images are similar, Michael made each tattoo unique for the individual owner.

  • Kipod Tattoo pt.1

Today we’re going to be taking a look at the works of Michael Kozlenko, one of the many talented artists from Kipod Tattoo and Piercing in Tel Aviv.  We’ve featured works from Michael before, as well as other artists from Kipod.  Over the course of today you’ll be able to see a small preview of some of the many works that can be found in the Kipod Tattoo Portfolio.  You’ll also see why Jen and I both race to post these photos first.  I can’t count the number of times she’s told me her intention to fly to Israel just to be tattooed there.

To kick things off, we’ll start with a color portrait.

The soft purple shading on the face really brings out her features, and makes this appear to be a watercolor painting as opposed to a tattoo.

  • Oh Hell Yeah

    \m/

This badass skull was sent in by one of the newest IAM members, Glam Zombie.

He tattooed this piece on fellow artist Jason Angst.  You can see the skull in all it’s full-sized glory in the skull tattoo gallery.

  • Efix Down Under

That tiny frenchman we all love is currently slicing and dicing his way across Australia.  While on the road sticking things into, and cutting things off of people, he’s taking pictures and sending them our way.  In his most recent cutting, Efix took some scars that were already present and crafted this incredible Quan Yin.

Keep an eye on Efix’s BME portfolio gallery for the latest updates from his adventures in Oz.

  • Arms and the man

Taking a quick look below, you can see the arms.  Vincent Hocquet is the man.  The man has a BME portfolio gallery that is filled with incredible geometric tattoos.

The fact that it’s all dotwork was enough to fry my brain.  I can barely draw a straight line.  Imagine creating these intricate figures using dots!

  • Wednesday, Bloody, Wednesday

Now if you thought that the chin scarification from yesterday was bloody.  Just think how much blood was shed in this massive undertaking.

This big ol’ scar piece was done across the pond by Ricki Duncan from Bridgend Tattoo Studio, conveniently located in the town of Bridgend, UK.

  • Another day, another beauty

It seems like this week has been pretty good for BMEGirl submissions so let’s have another one today.  Pincusion Princess here always manages to send in fantastic pictures and this week she sent in quite a few.  Below are just two of the ones you can find in the BMEGirls Gallery.

To see the other one, you’re going to have to do some clicking…

Here’s the rundown on some of her modifications.

Tattoos by Ryan Bolton, hand implant by Steve Truitt, and her piercings are from her lucky husband, Dominick269.

As an extra little treat, check out her four month old ear implants that were put in by Dom.

  • Another one for Self-Injury Awareness Day, or is it?

The post below this is one about today being Self-Injury Awareness Day. That is why I am posting this now rather than tomorrow, even though today’s modblog plate has already been filled up. The words self-injury in this context brings up one of the oldest arguments in the body modification world which is modification vs. mutilation. Obviously, a lot of the deciding factor is in the eye of the beholder. Seriously, ask around enough and you will find plenty of people who think that a standard navel piercing is a mutilation. However, I think most modblog readers, even those that are not fans of navel piercings, would never consider one to be a mutilation. However, there are some other modification we cover on BME are not so black and white.

No one modification is responsible for more modification vs. mutilation arguments then the voluntary amputation of healthy and viable body parts. That is why I couldn’t overlook the coincidence of a photo submission of a finger amputation (amputation submissions in general are extremely rare) on Self-Injury Awareness day.

In my many years of involvement in this community, I have met and talked to a lot of amputees. Some of whom had the most sane justifications for their choice to amputate a part of themselves. So justified, in fact, that there was no question it was a modification and a sane decision for them. Others I met were a little bit more questionable in their level of mental stability, but still managed to make me feel like this modification was the right choice for them.

Then there is a small minority, people who I might dare call insane, who hate themselves and are slowly cutting away bits of them selves in a hateful fashion. Those people obviously fall into the mutilation category.

So to me, amputation and pretty much any body mod for that matter is neither modification nor mutilation 100% of the time. It is the owner of these mods and their decision making process that, to me, determine whether something is a modification or a mutilation, or to keep with the theme of the day, a modification or a self-injury.

So I ask you, the modblog readers, where do you draw the line between modification and mutilation?  To answer that question, see unwrapped photos of this amputation and learn what other non-major (but far sweeter) holiday today is, keep on keeping on.

These photos were submitted  by Devo238, for whom I could not find any contact info on. If Devo238 sees this and wants to provide me some information on it, please shoot me an email.

So what do you guys think, modification or mutilation? Share your thoughts in the comments section, I like hearing where everyone stands.

PS: Besides being Self-Injury Awareness Day today is also (in the states at least) National Pancake Day, so when your done reading modblog why not head over to IHOP and get some free pancakes?
