A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.
  • A long journey

Tattoos can have all different kinds of meanings, some are simple, and others can have a meaningful story behind them.  This tattoo is the latter.  Amanda Grace Leadman from No Ka Oi Tattoo in Philadelphia helped one individual bring to life a tattoo design that signifies something very important.

“This tattoo connects my journey and my destination as a genderqueer trans person. Amanda and I collaborated in it’s design.”

The design they came up with is this, a pair of mating slugs suspending from a rusty key.

  • The Spiral Trinity

Triskelions seem to be popular these days as it’s the second one we’ve seen in the past week, although in this case it’s a scar and not 33 microdermals.  This one in particular was done on Huxley by none other than Steve Haworth, while he was a guest artist at Piercings by J in Guelph, ON.

  • What’s black and red and inked all over?

It’s easy, Michael Kozlenko‘s latest client.  There’s so much going on in this chest/shoulder/arm piece, and all of it is awesome.  Each section is unique, yet they all tie so well together.  Have a look for yourself.

You can check out more of Michael’s work in the Kipod Tattoo Portfolio.

  • The Devil’s Tightrope

Leave it to the Mercury Suspension Team to put together a 4 person devil’s tightrope pull for a fundraiser.  IAM:Benolyn sent in the photos from the event, but she didn’t include the names of anyone involved in the pull, although I do see Bradde on the far left of the first photo.

Update from Benolyn:  The people pulling are Bradde Hamman, Josh Anderson, Travis Boersma, and Cory Boersma. Flec is our slackrope extraordinaire, and our anchor people are Matt Borsa, Pat Kuhn, John Osborne, and Andrew “Big Poppa” Mitchell.

  • Out for a walk

It’s been too long since IAM:Jay-Z has made an appearance on ModBlog, so to remedy that here’s a shot of her and her pooch from a calendar photoshoot to raise money for the human society.

You can see more of Jay-Z in the BMEGirls gallery.

  • Casting Call – Toronto Area

Listen up Toronto area ModBlog readers.  As you may have heard, Sony Pictures is currently filming Total Recall around the city and they’re looking for some modified people to be in the film.  So if you live in or around Toronto, check out the listing below.

Total Recall, a Sony Pictures Film starring Colin Farrell, Jessica Biehl, and Kate Beckinsale, is shooting here in Toronto and requires background performers who have elaborate tattoos (preferably facial and head, neck and arms), multiple visible piercings, and/or any sub/transdermal implants or other body modifications. The filming will take place in mid-August, with details coming closer to the shoot date. Anyone interested should email a photo (highlighting tattoos and any modifications) as well as contact information to David Seymour at [email protected]. Any other questions regarding the film will be fielded upon receipt.

If you are interested, make sure to mention that you found out about this through BME.  Who knows, we may be seeing more of these in the future.

  • She’s all smiles

I love seeing photos where it’s clear that the person in them is really enjoying themselves.  After seeing both of these smiles, it’s safe to say JuliaIrys had a blast with poking a hole through her cheek, then playing with the blood afterwards.

  • Tiny Phoenix

I’d like everyone to meet Phoenix, IAM:Sick Girl’s son.  Valerie is IAM’s newest addition to the modified moms club.

  • Ooo eee, ooo ah ah, ting tang walla walla, bing bang

You know someone is a fan of video games when they get a tattoo of a video game character from a game that isn’t even released yet.  Diablo 3 is sure to be a big hit, and this tattoo of the witch doctor by Roger from Star City Tattoo in Roanoke, VA shows us just how excited Diablo fans are for the new game.

  • Oslo Suscon – Day 1

    Friday

This tenth incarnation of the now world renowned Oslo Suscon welcomes practitioners and participants from fifteen countries around the world.

It is the intention of creators Christiane and Havve to see a hundred suspensions take place over the weekend; an ambitious but attainable goal. While I don’t want to go into too much detail about this, I would like to mention that no-one involved in the suscon has been hurt in any way from the explosions that are currently in the news worldwide.

Much like last year or the year before that, there are many familiar faces present, and the atmosphere is vibrating with anticipation and happiness.

Allen Falkner is with us again, and will give a lecture on rigging this year. From Russia we have, among others, Stanislav, Elena, and Max from The Sinner Team – known for their controversial free fall suspensions; which can roughly be described as a combination of suspension and bungee jumping. They will show the premiere of their documentary Free Fall Suspension – The Birth. After watching the trailer, I can see why a lot of people are excited to learn more about these crazy Russians!

Wings of Desire’s own Marte is also giving us a talk entitled „Pain as Medication“, and finally Matt is organizing another movie showing of CoRE’s Journey to Enlightenment – their 10 year anniversary movie.

As part of the introduction to this suscon, Havve & Christiane gave a talk on it’s now decade-long history. From it’s inception in 2002 as a suspension festival held alongside freaky fashion shows and several bands, it has since been held on a boat, before taking roots in it’s current venue; Månefisken. I couldn’t help but reminisce back to my own first attendance back in 2003, when everyone was crew, or at the very least crew in training. Since then there has been a steady and reassuring progression. Gradual evolution of every aspect. The equipment and techniques used this year are more refined than ever, and as well as being filled with fantastic people, I always find it interesting to see what innovations various groups have come up with from year to year.

For example, this year has seen the interlocking rigs that steel fetish produce – real clever stuff!

Guest speakers also help create an environment that’s very helpful for learning, and have been a welcome tradition since 2004. Attendance by people from the most prestigious and respected suspension groups is typical, and perhaps because of this, I can say with no hesitation that there are no inflated egos here. In its place, the convention seems to organically turn to laid back discussions and a willingness and desire to learn.

On questions of what were the most rewarding and interesting aspects of the event from an organizer’s viewpoint we were given a straightforward answer; the opportunity to see friends, and share new knowledge. This attitude is, I’m sure, why most people I speak to aren’t shy in saying this is their favourite suspension convention.

A live feed from the suscon can be found here!

I don’t have any pictures to post yet, but will do my utmost to link to some later on this evening.

On behalf of Oslo Suscon, thanks for reading.
