A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

Magnets, how do they work?

Apologies for the ICP lyric, but it’s been a while since we’ve had a story about magnetic implants I couldn’t help myself.

Rata, from Rata Body Art Studio in Buenos Aires, recently spent a couple of months working in Florida as a guest artist.  On his last day in Florida, Pinhead and Johnny Vilonius decided to surprise him by giving him some magnetic implants as a parting gift.  Rata has had his work featured on ModBlog before a couple of times, but I believe this marks the first time that he’s been the subject of the photo, not the artist behind the work featured.

Thanks to Johnny for sending in the photos.  According to him the procedure only took 10 minutes, and he was on a plane back home the very next day.  The first image is of Rata looking at his fingers, and the second is of Pinhead inserting the magnets.

I’m glad to see a magnet update on Modblog. Also, happy to say i’ve had one for nearly a year now and i’m not bored of it at all. It’s really amazing to ‘feel’ microwaves and security alarms in shops and libraries and most importantly music at gigs from near the speakers. 🙂

it’s really not that bad, my recommendation is to not look.
typing is awkward during the healing process though.

    “Water, fire, air and dirt
Fucking magnets, how do they work?
And I don’t wanna talk to a scientist
Y’all motherfuckers lying, and getting me pissed”

He brings up a good question… must be another miracle.

Why would you feature someone that uses industrial grade silicone in his implants, distributes it, along with elevators to people who dont know what theyre doing. Keep that implant in and have fun getting sick and dying! hooray for 5 years max!

lol no this is not Retro. Retro and Pinhead are friends and often work together, but he wasn’t there for Rata’s magnet. They usually have a booth together at conventions, but Pin is the one with the transdermals and the blue eyeball (I just realized that neither of those are really visible in this photo lol)

This was in Florida? Where?! I thought everything that isn’t a piercing or tattoo had to be done by a doctor here. D:

I have a magnet that Pinhead did , doesn’t hurt as bad as you would think and it’s not strong enough to destroy credit cards or computers. It is strong enough for you to pick up things and it does give you and extra sense. It pretty awesome.

how come i keep getting modded out? im just stating the fact that rata does implants with industrial silicone and distributes industrial silicone. Someone will die from it and it will be game over.

Quick question for those with magnetic implants. Is there any effect on touch screen devices like the iPhone? As in does it effect the screen, or mess with the input?

Pinhead is at best underqualified, how about all of the pictures of Steve Haworth who created the modern magnetic implants..that would be a better post about “how magnets work”. Next off why is BME featuring a mod artist who uses industrial grade silicone that he tells his clients they have to remove after 5 years of wear..just sayin.

I miss when I could actually see cool mods on BME.

What kind of bio-compatibility material are the magnets coated in?

    Gold?

    Titanium?

@ben: wow, I never saw someone being so jealous for other ppl success. I live in argentina, buenos aires, here rata studio is and I can say he don’t use industrial silicon or anything like. A lot of his employees have his implants and guess what no one die.
