The blending of multiple forms of modification into a single piece is hardly something that is new. Heavy blackwork tattoos with scars cut into them, implants under tattoos to make them stand out, the list can go on and on. Sometimes the results can be drastic, and other times it can be subtle, such as the case with the following photo submitted to us by Steven Cool from Almighty Tattoo in Flint, MI.
I think what I like most about this piece is just how well the surface anchors blend in with the stars. Granted the triangle design does stand out a bit, but as a whole the concept works.
What I am curious about is to what you think of the blending of styles. For the most part there are two categories, multiple modifications that compliment each other really well, or pieces like this that are (or at least appear to be) created with the intention of blending the modifications together. Or is there really a division between the two? Should we just look at the overall package when it comes to modifications and see the entire body as a single piece, or is it ok to judge each individual mod on its own merits?

The picture is very obviously photoshopped and it looks like most of those are embedded within the skin; not a healthy look. Is this really the caliber of posts we should continue to expect from ModBlog or are you people going to eventually get your shit together and start showcasing quality work again at some point in the near future?
Ugh, this is what you’re putting forward as the best of the best? Generic star-rash tattoos with random microdermals? Seriously? There’s nothing unusual, quality, new, or interesting about this. I could see this on some college chick at the local mall. Modblog really needs to stand up and put some effort into finding quality modifications again. I’m so disappointed in you guys.

if you dont like it stop following modblog. may this particular photo may be photo shopped and the microdermals def look off (the triangle isnt measured right and the top one looks like it may be embedded or photo shopped there. not sure). and stars are played out. but through this photo he is trying to make a point. and rob writes beautifully and has really made mod blog into something worth tuning into everyday. its people like you (2 and 3) that make me not want to read this. the negativity isnt what i come here for.
i think it’s cute. i wouldnt get it but to each their own. tis what makes out community special. we can do WHATEVER THE F WE WANT!

This looks shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few ‘shops in my time.
I don’t think I would get tattooed or pierced by someone who went by the name of “Cool”.

where is the beauty and flow of this design… at all? i agree, stars are played out in my book.. but still. if you’re going to get them, you might as well strive for a well-designed (and well-executed!) piece of art, if you’re wanting to carry it around on you forever. this piece screams to me that not a single fuck was given while applying or designing this tattoo.
and, yeah. those… microdermals? i guess? they don’t really look like any microdermals ive seen before.

I wish the piece had some flow as opposed to just being rows of stars, but I don’t hate it. People will always find a way to bitch about a common tattoo… stars, kanji, anything. Very few things are original ideas. If people like stars, why the fuck shouldn’t they get stars? Stars are pretty and universally (har har) loved, it’s not surprising they’re everywhere.
