A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

Today’s Iron Chef ingredient: INK!!

I’ll admit that I love the Iron Chef.  Both the original, and the US version.  Heck I even watched the specials hosted by William Shatner.  So it should come as no shock that I think this story is pretty cool.

While frat guys have their secret handshakes and makeout parties, the modern-day chef has chosen a little more permanent insignia of their brotherhood: tattoos. This distinguishing feature pops up on plenty of chefs both nationally and locally, bringing a touch of rock-star flare to the back of the house.  Tattoos — whether used as a means to cover up scar tissue from years of kitchen work or a means to pick up chicks – are as much a part of today’s chefs uniform as a toque or an apron.

The last time I was in Kansas City, I had dinner at a fantastic pizza place that had some great vegan pizzas.  I can’t recall the name of it right now, but I’m sure someone in the comments section can enlighten me.  If you do get a chance to hit up this pizza place, I highly recommend getting a pizza with mushrooms, garlic, and roasted potatoes.  I’d drive down there again just to eat that pizza.

Any ModBlog readers chefs?  Or just someone who likes to cook?  Got any tips/recipes to share?

Claire and I have a foodie blog that we don’t update enough: http://modifiedingredients.wordpress.com.
I mainly stick to meats and charcuterie (I cure my own proscuitto and handmake small batch sausage) with a special affection for organ meats, wild game and foie gras. Claire is a baker…. her sea salt caramel brownies are to die for.

The store I get a lot of my meat/cheese combos at here in Philly (d’angelo bros) has a mostly tattooed staff, most of whom have food/foodie related work.

not a recipe, just a statement…. me and the piercer at our shop have tattoos in honor of Alton Brown, our favorite chef, its a spin off of AB’s tattoo , the skull and crossed knife and fork, only we changed the banner on ours to say ‘WWABD’…. just thought i would share that useless piece of info….

  • Suspended, Not Silenced
There’s something undeniably powerful about watching someone working through the stages of suspension. We all build up ideas about ourselves—what we’re allowed to feel, how much we’re allowed to express, when it’s okay to break. For some, suspension is not about pushing physical limits its… Read more: Suspended, Not Silenced

First suspensions are rarely just about the body—they’re a meeting point between the physical and the deeply personal.
