A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

I Know What You Are, But What Am I?

Clockwise from top left we have..

David Hasselhoff by Matt Gardiner of Tattoo U ’2′, Cardiff, Wales.

Pee-Wee Herman by Christina Sparrow, Sacred Heart Studio, Houston, TX.

Continuing in a clockwise motion we find a wonderful portrait of George Romero by Bobby and last but not least another Pee-Wee Herman Tattoo, this time the work of Tom Oulette, Kustom Kulture Tattoos, Michigan.

I think it’s fair to say that most of the tattoo work posted to ModBlog is not the best quality and isn’t going to win any awards at a tattoo convention. It seems to me like it’s posted because it’s amusing, unique, cute, or on a community member, not because it’s a shining example of great tattooing by a great artist. People come here to see something interesting, not to see the best tattoos in the world.

how can anyone consider any of these tattoos “complete shit?” I mean, yeah some of the tattoos aren’t the best, but those are not often posted for being of great quality but rather some other reason. As far as portraits go, I think all four of these are very well done.

Hahaha those are terrifying! Portrait tattoos give me the heebie jeebies

I’d have to agree with Vomit on this one…. unless they are exceptional (like ‘best in the world’ that you probly wouldn’t see here) and look very real, portraits creep me out. Worst of all are babies and children.

isaweasel: most people’s eyes are slightly crooked anyway

Is Pee Wee holding snakes? (Like when he rescued the animals from the burning petshop in PeeWees Big Adventure.) Or is he holding…something else?

    Christina Sparrow!

If you live in Houston like I do, go and give her all your money.
She is amazing and amazingly nice.

    :]

And she does some BAD ASS work!

I totally thought the David Hasslehoff one was a very weird looking Han Solo at first.

Not a big fan of portraits, but the Hoff came out fairly decent 🙂

“People come here to see something interesting, not to see the best tattoos in the world.”

I never understand this mentality. It’s 2008, why settle for second rate shit when there’s so much great talent out there?

You can get something interesting, AND have it applied in an expert manner.

If these tattoos were done at my shop, the artist would be packing his shit up & job hunting.
