A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

Lighthouse

Well, that’s all for today. You may see more from other writers in the next little while (and of course videos from Roo as always), and if I’m needed over the next few weeks you may see a few more entries from me as well. I really do hope this transition can go smoothly. BME (as in the main site) is in the process of updating in the next 12-24 hours.

As much as BME is absolutely a large-scale community project, for a decade and a half the output has been under my creative guidance and very much flavored by my own personality, politics, and interests. I’m sure there are people who are hoping that character will stay the same, and I’m sure there are people who are hoping it will change radically, and of course there’s value in each path. I am very much looking forward to seeing how things are expressed through a new prism, and I hope everyone gives it a chance.

Either way, I’m also looking forward to being able to get back out to the East Coast — maybe I will bump into John P at Peggy’s Cove, since his ear lends evidence that he’s been there.

Ha! I recognized this immediately! Peggy’s cove is so nice, I’d love to live in one of the little houses they have down there, but it gets really cold out there in the winter so I’m not so sure I could the heating!

Really nice/funny shot, then again that might just be the bluenose pride swelling.

Even if I sound like a fangirl, I can’t seem to wrap my mind around the fact that you won’t be posting here anymore, Shannon.

    This place already feels deserted.

Ok, so i didn’t know much about body mod until bme appeared suddenly… then i totally digged it. i’ve been a fan of tattoos ever since a little kid. i only have two because i like taking my time on planning them, currently i’m designing my calf sleeve… long story short, if it wasn’t for bme i wouldn’t have as many resources (photo galleries, specialy “oldscool” and “newschool” tattoos) to achieve an interesting result to get inked. Being from a small town in central america (guatemala city) not many people is heavily inked, not to say modified, here.

I also met some amazing people, Ron Garza and John Durante in person and a friend of mine who now has a corset on her back and some ink, i’m pretty sure one of my closest friends wouldn’t have started his calf project: a tetris sleeve if it wasn’t for the inspiration found through the “geek tattoos” gallery.

I only want to thank this community for the impact it has represented in my life so far. And i’m also one on the side that Shannon’s wit and devotion kept me attatched to read this daily.

    So there you go, haha

Alex – They’ll be in a book, although I’m passing some of the to Roo to finish off if they’re more appropriate for BME. I’d hate to see them go to waste.

Lane – Thanks 🙂 I have a couple new sites on the way but they’re not body modification related, and yeah, definitely books.

Best of luck to you Shannon.

I have to admit that I’m fairly eager to see what direction the site will be going in and I’m happy to give the crew a chance to prove themselves without all of the legal drama looming over the situation.

I’ve been coming here since 1994 when I was fifteen. Two years later I was in a shop piercing professionally and I’ve never looked back.

None of that would have been possible without the contributions Shannon Larret made to help bring this culture out of the dark age. Some kids have sports heroes growing up, mine were the guys interviewed on here.

Shannon it sucks you’re leaving, sucks really bad but I hope you’re happy wherever life takes you. For what it’s worth you’ve meant a lot to myself and every other serious modification artist of my generation.

    Thank you.

I hope any and all new contributors will not venture down just one set path, instead they pave a new middle-road that connects both roads you spoke of.

hope the new ventures you delve into are a success Shannon *nods*

Like it has for so many other people, BME has changed my life for the good.
I will be forever grateful to you Shannon. And I wish you all the best.

Change is often a very good thing. Just because something is DIFERENT doesn’t mean it’s bad (people in body modification should now this from personal experience).

I’m trying to be very positive about the future of BME.
However, the last time others had the opportunity to grab the controls and fly the plane it just about careened into the side of a mountain.
I hope this time it soars.

Good luck on your move Shannon. I hope this puts peace in your heart. Although I never got to know you as a person I have admired your willingness to be so open with your views on life, even though they run contrary to the way 99% of the rest of the world thinks. I wish I could be that fucking honest about myself. I hope you, your ex, BME and modblog the very best.
