So in light of Obama’s “Race Speech”, I was thinking about how differently different generations have experienced race in America and approach the terminology of race in very different ways. There are of course still many older Americans who lived through segregated times and experienced the remnants of slavery culture, and most adults have lived through at least heavy inequality and racial stress overlapping the class war, but it seems like Courtney from South Florida and her best friend (“millennials“) have had a different experience again, where co-opting once segregated terms is completely non-offensive to them (whether or not it’s offensive to others in a variety of demographic sectors)… It will be interesting where terms of racial inequality end up in another fifty years.

shawn- hey, I never said I was tolerant 🙂 I know I’m not, not when it comes to racism, misogyny, heterosexism, and a whole myriad of other things I feel strongly opposed to. Lefties aren’t pro-everything!

white people (particularly scene kids) thinking it’s cool to say ‘nigga’ is the single most annoying trend i’ve come across these days. it’s another example of how black hip hop culture is becoming cool, but most of these idiotic scene kids are afraid of ACTUAL black people anyway.
#82 got it right.
fuck them and their tattoos.

See Megan- we DO have something in common. Im not very tolerant either. Though I’m sure that the things I’m intolerant of would make it difficult for you to be friendly with me. Whereas I wouldn’t mind your beliefs. Ironic. Still, I bet we both look good in a swimsuit.
102:
I work with black guys that say nigger and nigga every second word. I mean literally. They’d say it when ordering ice cream or attending a funeral. They say it when talking to black folks (a lot of my black friends are from the Islands and as such hate the term African American) and when talking to white folks. I’d much rather see it used like any other “curse” word than used as a noun, a verb, an adjective and a pronoun.

I worked with a girl who I quite liked (one of the few facially modded people locally I suppose) who called herself a “nigga” ’cause she dated black guys and had a mixed race son. I thought it odd but apparently it’s just the subculture.

well just to be fair, white folk should be the only ones who can say “cracker” or “honkey” (sp?) and still be politically correct. but it doesnt work that way, as generations are born into this world, cultures and whats appropriate or tolerated are redefined to suit the current social climate. holding onto hate of any kind is counter productive. even if its petty shit like who can say what word in what context. instead of letting our culture define us, we should define our culture.

I’m shocked that Shannon even posted this, but with all this drama I’m not too surprised. I do not believe in censorship so here I go.
These too white girls are obviously un-educated twits, if they had sense and smarts they would had never got this tattooed on their lips. I hope you know that this post will be bought to the medias attention, and Shannon has stopped showing the best of the world’s body modifications and is now purely trying to shock with racist hate language tattoos, soft porn shots and animal abuse pictures.
Good Bye!

They’re not black, they probably don’t know any black people, and they probably live in a pretty white neighborhood, so the reason as to why they’d get “nigga” tattooed on their lips eludes me. I’ve personally been called a nigger even though I’m half black and I took it offensively. I know a lot of people that would’ve taken it offensively too. Damn they need to learn some history, or perhaps use pills to darken their skin to see how life as a “nigga” really is.
