A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

I do have a partner, why do you ask ?

As for women using men as eye candy there is a huge difference. Systematic and institutional sexism has ensured that women have been treated as 2nd class citizens since civilisation began. Continuing use of females as eye candy for men further adds to problem. The opposite however goes some way to redressing the inconsistencies within male/female relationships and even male/male etc.

Gay eye candy worship is part of an assertive liberation process that has allowed gay men to be more open and honest about their homosexuality within a society where traditionally they have had to suppress their feelings.

Beautiful athletic body, goregous tattoos, plugs?!
    Oh my.
I think my panties just got wet.
That woman is my role model.

    ….And I feel like a 15 year old again.

Giles – How did you meet your partner? Were you in a huge dark room full of three hundred women/men and spoke to each of them at length before you decided to take the relationship to the next level? Do you keep a photo of your partner in your wallet/on your desk? Do you ever proudly show that photo to other people?

Enjoying a photo of someone and commenting about how lovely or hot they look is not sexist. It’s normal behaviour and I think you’re reading way too much into this, something that only exists (if you don’t mind me saying) to you.

There are many societies and cultures who revere women, some revere cats. Does that mean in those cultures men are treated as second class citizens? No.

I agree that in societies where people of any gender/race/orientation are treated as inferior is a terrible thing, but I don’t understand how you can in all seriousness compare appreciating the female form to sexual discrimination.

  5. Giles Avatar

Roo – I’m afraid that there is VERY strong evidence that the continuing objectifying of females coupled with the belief that judging them on their appearances is acceptable contributes very much to the continuing society where women are 2nd class citizens.

As for my partner we got together after a year of knowing each other as friends.

Claiming that objectifying women by their appearance is “normal behaviour” is extremely worrying Roo.

    As David Steinberg writes

” Suck ‘em, bite ‘em, touch ‘em, squeeze ‘em, dream about ‘em, whatever you want. Get into it, but get beyond it too. Tunnel-vision tit-focus isn’t necessarily degrading, but it does have a way of getting simply boring. And if it’s not shallow, it’s definitely narrow. I mean, do the sexiest women you know all have nice tits? Do the most interesting women you know all have nice tits? Do the most sexually interesting women you know all have nice tits? If so, I dare say you’re missing some amazing people and experiences.”

  7. Shannon Avatar

I think there’s a big difference between objectifying someone and appreciating beauty, especially self-induced beauty.

  8. RooRaaah Crumbs Avatar

Giles – I never for a moment suggested that objectifying a women from her appearance is normal, care to point out where I said that?

Admiring a photo of someone, whatever their sex, is. Stop projecting and don’t put words into my mouth.

Giles – It is totally appropriate for women to celebrate a man’s (or womens) attractiveness but inappropriate for a man to comment on a women’s?

Sexism is not simply the discrimination of men against women, it is the unequal treatment of anyone based on gender. I don’t know the women photographed, but being in that kind of shape is usually a decorative thing, something specifically worked at and seen as a goal in of itself, not something that occurs naturally. As a someone who supports body mods, I obviously have no problem with people changing their body to their desires, but a large part of it is often attractiveness. I think that most people don’t post pictures of themselves showing lots of skin and muscles if they don’t want to be considered attractive; commenting on that is a positive thing, one which is most likely affirming for the woman photographed.

Its true, in most areas, the workplace, government, etc, men have traditionally been favored over women. In other areas, such as childrearing/custody and criminal punishment, women still hold a distinct and unfair advantage over men. True feminists (or masculists) don’t bitch about how sexist physical appreciation is, they celebrate such personal, physical liberation and work to combat inequality where it exists. If you were challenging all appreciation of physical beauty, such as women or gay men applauding fit male nudity, then that would be something different. Something obnoxious, puritanical, and self-aggrandizing, but different still. However, exclusively singling out one sex/orientation for your little hate speeches is both sexist and annoying. Please stop.

    :S Seriously?
I guess I see a hot chick and am appreciative of her healthy, fit body, her natural beauty and I’m drawn to it.
…Seeing people with tattoos isn’t what stands out to me. It’s NORMAL.
This is a blog about different modified people! Sometimes it’s about the individual – sometimes it’s about the actual modification.
I feel like this picture is about LINDSEY! Not her boobs or a pouty “come fuck me” face.
It shows a DIFFERENT kind of BME girl! I’m appreciative for the variation in between waif and curvy girls who are posted. She looks great.
(And she’s a rad bitch, too.)

  14. Giles Avatar

Roo – interspersed with such misogynistic filth like “What a hot bitch! I’d be all kinds of all over her! Woo! Who is this hottiecakes?”

Sickening, truly sickening and still you fail to make the clear and well documented link between casual sexist comments and institutionalised patriarchal power within western society.

Henry – For there to be an equal combat towards physical appreciation there would have to be equal starting blocks within society for women, men and homosexuals. As I’m sure you know there aren’t and as such the focus remains on the female.

  15. Lexci Avatar

If I looked that healthy and a beautiful sleeve like that, I would welcome comments on how great I looked.
It takes a lot of time, pain and money to have a tattoo that lovely.
It takes a lot of time, pain and determination to have a body that healthy looking.
    She DOES look great!

  16. RooRaaah Crumbs Avatar

Giles – And still you succeed to put words into my mouth. How did you come to the decision that I’d failed to make the link? I am not saying that you don’t have a point when it comes to people yelling/wolf whistling across the street at someone or making obscene gestures.

What I am saying, simply, is that to appreciate a photo of someone and think they’re gorgeous is NOT sexist. It’s human nature, it’s attraction. I must admit I’m rather addled by why you can’t seem to appreciate that as human beings we are wired this way. If you’re insinuating at all that I am leaning towards being a misogynistic sexist then I’m afraid we’ll have to take this outside because, frankly, you don’t know me and I most certainly am not.

No matter what I say you seem hellbent (and almost worryingly one-track) on finding the bad in everything and projecting what you see as inherent sexism on everyone and everything around you.

The fact that you find someone voicing their opinion that a person is attractive worries me even more, and the fact that you can’t seem to be able to see past your own deeply ingrained feelings on this matter is really quite disturbing. I can honestly say that you need to think more before you type, and read what people are saying in reply as you’re just not ‘getting it’.

Please – Don’t make me search through the archive of the comments you’ve made on ModBlog and expose you 🙂

I think some people do take it to a level of commentary that I know personally I wouldn’t be comfortable with (the overtly sexual comments) for some of the reasons Giles pointed out but that’s why I don’t send in photos of myself in small outfits and stuff. She is a person, I’m sure she knew it was a possibility when she sent this photo in, so I don’t think anyone should speak for her.

  18. Megan Avatar

Also I think that a man speaking on behalf of a woman and attempting to set boundaries for her is not exactly conducive to feminism.

  19. serenity Avatar

ohh, grrrrrr man. Saying a woman is hot is only a bad thing if the person saying it has a darker motive than to comment openly on what he sees. Grrr.. I haven’t got the time to respond any more than that.

Trying to guilt people into having the same beliefs as you, Giles, is akin to (if not outright) fascism. I will agree that there are a number of people who, due to the relative anonymity of the internet, post either derogatory or shallow comments but you’ll have that on any site and policing those comments is an abridgement of the freedom of speech. As Noam Chomsky once said, “If we don’t believe in free expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.”

My major qualm with your diatribes is that you happen to be arguing over the internet concerning a topic which is, as you have made obvious, quite dear to you. Wouldn’t that time be better spent working towards change in the real world, where people aren’t as pigheaded?

#74, this is the real world. These are real people typing real comments, having a real argument. You see here before a conversation read by hundreds of people, who are forming opinions as we speak. This is not to discount other forms of social activism, but do not underestimate the power of internet discussion forums, especially when they based on (relative) civility and respect for each other’s right to speak as this one.

  27. Giles Avatar

    >>Wouldn’t that time be better spent working towards change in the real world, where people aren’t as pigheaded?

It’s true that I should spend less time arguing with the “pigheaded” here but I do a lot of work outside of the net in a similar way.

Sadly coming here and reading the opinions being expressed shows just how much work needs to be done to ‘better’ society.

Q)Roo – And still you succeed to put words into my mouth. How did you come to the decision that I’d failed to make the link?

    A) but I don’t understand how you can in all seriousness compare appreciating the female form to sexual discrimination.

The method in which the female form has been appreciated in this forum and many others on ModBlog is VERY much part of the underlying misogyny that lies within society.

    Q) Roo – What I am saying, simply, is that to appreciate a photo of someone and think they’re gorgeous is NOT sexist.

    A) Nobody said it was. Again it is the WAY in which it is expressed that is the problem. The primitive grunting and drooling over the female is frankly quite repulsive.

    Q) Roo – No matter what I say you seem hellbent (and almost worryingly one-track) on finding the bad in everything and projecting what you see as inherent sexism on everyone and everything around you.

Er no. Not even close Mr Crumbs.

    Q) Roo – I can honestly say that you need to think more before you type, and read what people are saying in reply as you’re just not ‘getting it

    A) OK this is where I will have to flex my intellectual might a bit. Feminism is very much part of my MA in Social Science, I HAVE to know what I am talking about or I will not get my masters degree and be able to push forward with my Phd. I have to make sure I am ‘getting it’ to ensure that I continue on the path that I have set. I used to think like yourself Roo but then through long study and much research I discovered the ‘truth’ about how society works and the underlying problems associated with it.

If I fail my MA I will let you know and you can shout “Told you so”, until then I’ll continue ‘getting it’ in a way that produces the results I have been obtaining recently.

  29. RooRaaah Crumbs Avatar

    Pigheaded? Wow.

But Giles, I have no idea where you’re coming from. You don’t seem to understand the point I was making and you’re treating what I say like it’s the root cause of everything that’s bad about modern society without any basis whatsoever, at least no contextual basis.

So, because I (and many others) enjoy photography and pretty people we’re predatory sexist misogynists who are a danger to society? That seems to be what you’re implying.

As I’ve said we’ve never met and making those types of assumptions based entirely on comments you read on a blog doesn’t strike me as fair or at all intelligent.

Personally, I have never been a fan of “OMGZ SHE’S/HE’S HOT” comments because they are pretty inane, let’s face it.

But without knowing the person making them you shouldn’t immediately think they’re bad people.

I have to say, that as a woman – in regards to Giles, I take him about as seriously as I take Ann Coulter. In fact its safe to say i’ve come to view him as the Ann Coulter of the Modification world.

By example, the fact that you claim to represent and protect females and the feminist view is as laughable as Miss Coulter claiming that women shouldn’t be allowed to vote. Just by way of actually believing that you speak for women (REGARDLESS of what it is you have to say, or however p.c. you view your opinions to be) is incredibly offensive and in fact demeaning to women.

Im not going to enter a forum and wax on for a trillion comments about how great a blow job feels. Why is this ? Because I could never, ever know. So why bullshit people ?

Youre not fighting for any “betterment” of common courtesy, or some pristine etiquette towards women. All women, everywhere, asses another womans physical attractiveness within 3 seconds of the initial viewing. First to determine competition, second to determine personal attraction. It can’t be helped, as men do it to other men, and vise versa of the opposite sex. The fact that you feel the urge to constantly have to be ‘the comment police’ against basic human nature is pitiful, because it’s entirely futile.

True, after these instant and initial subconscious assessments – one can choose to mentally elaborate, or even make such thoughts known. But how could you expect to chastise such elaboration in a community of body modification ?
Arguably a community where holding in ones desires, in regards to both personal physical appearance, and appreciation of the appearance of others – simply does not factor into it.

    Find another soapbox please.
(Its beginning to become apparent that you could possibly have a severe inferiority complex, or perhaps a pathological need for attention, neither of which reflect well on you, and both of which have a tendency to bore )

NOW, i’d like to take the time to say that frankly, her sleeve doesn’t appeal to me much, though arguably it’s very well done. I will however, give her major major ups for the dedication it takes to develop such a toned body. She looks fantastic. I’ve begun to egde into a training routine myself and let me say, its kicking my ass in the best way. Cheers.
