A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

Serious British Soccer Fan!

My old friend Jerry took this shot at the recent March 2007 Peterlee Tattoo Convention of a guy who takes his football seriously enough to make it a part of his face.

Going down, going down, going down…

Oh, if ever a set of fans and a club deserved each other is it Dennis Wise, Ken Bates and Leeds United.

Altogether now: “we all hate Leeds and Leeds and Leeds, Leeds and Leeds and Leeds and Leeds….”

Sorry, I don’t know what came over me there…

I wonder if he has a football tattooed on the back of his head???

Personally, me being English I’m offended that you would call Football “soccer,” and I don’t like football lol, imagine how this guy feels!

lo and behold, i’m not the only one.

Football is a way of life. I’m always banging on about the ‘yid army’ (Tottenham Hotspur for those who don’t know), but I don’t think I could have my face tattooed with the clubs crest. And it would be nice to see Leads back in the prem, then watch them go down again. lol

Manchester United FTW! But yeah, that’s hardcore hooliganism.

  9. Shannon Larratt Avatar

Shauny – Telling me the terminology is wrong is like arguing about whether I should be using British or American… Doesn’t make any difference to me as long as it’s clear what’s being talked about… and I assume no one was confused.

Hardcore hooliganism would be a Milwall fc tattoo on the forehead

Wow, that man will probably never be allowed in a pub on a match day again! At least it’s not an Old Firm crest…

Shauny you tackled the ‘soccer’ point, what about the british part. He’s got the 3 lions on his forehead.

Why would you suppose he was a hooligan? Surely Modblog regulars aren’t judging someone on their appearance… tut tut… :p

    13. its not the tattoos that make him a hooligan, its the shirt!!lol

Wow. Those comments are a typical knee-jerk reaction load of tosh (strong language for me).

I had the pleasure of chatting with the guy and you’d be hard pushed to find a more friendly, well-mannered, well spoken guy. Don’t let looks fool you folks.

By the way (for #2), being English, he has ‘England’ on the back of his neck!

#1. Our downfall is one of the greatest tragedies in the modern game. And were not the same team that everyone learned to hate so leave us alone.

I think the old white rose badge would have fitted better with the rest of his stuff but oh well…

If (American) football is for pussies, then soccer is for cowards. At least football is a game where the players play to win, rather than play not to lose.

Disclaimer: I do not enjoy watching or keeping up on any professional sport, including football and soccer.

It confused a lot people here when I would refer to football, so I’m glad there’s another term for americans “soccer” so I don’t have all the time to mime what I call by football.

  24. The Beni Avatar
    The Beni

#23, I’m confussed! How is football (soccer) for cowards? Play not to lose? eh, I don’t get that. You play to win, but if both teams are equally metched then you get a draw. It’s the beautiful game, the most popular game in the world. All you need is two shirts and a ball and you have a game. I’m sorry for really going off topic on this site. :p

  25. Joe Avatar

“You play to win, but if both teams are equally metched then you get a draw.”

Exactly my point. I’ve seen soccer games where the players are just playing keep away until the clock runs out, rather than actually going for a win. That’s a coward’s game.

BTW, I was just being facetious in my original post in response to 5, 19 & 21

re: the comments about judging this guy by his appearance:

he has a british bulldog tattooed on his face. that’s one step away from a swastika. and not a “happy” swastika either.

  37. Tatty Avatar

    # 37, I kinda see your point, but back in the day the british bulldog was used in relation to English football, and not necessarilly in the offensive, racist way it has come to represent because of some idiotic hooligans!
and also in response to #16, im sure this guy is lovely and I am not about to make any judgements about him based on his looks-but I would like to point out that even racists and nazis can be well spoken, well-mannered and friendly, its hard to admit (well for me anyway) but its true.

Now Leeds as a city’s a mighty fine place,
But the fans and the team are a fucking disgrace,
With Bremner and Reaney and Lorimer too,
With their hands down their shorts they’ve got fuck-all to do.

They sing about Munich, they scream and they shout,
They talk about things they know fuck-all about,
In my opinion the Leeds scum should be,
Shovelling shit on the Isle of Capri.

and not forgetting (to the tune of Club biscuits)…

“cos if you follow Leeds United,
then you must be fucking scum…”
