A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!

You know, I’m probably damning myself just for posting this. Larry “Have a sense of humor for Christ’s Sake” Brogan (Tattoo City, Lockport, IL) is probably also damned, and the wearer of this tattoo? Definitely headed for a warmer climate!

Being a fanatic atheist, this tattoo is just wicked and totally to my taste. Maybe not as upsetting in sweden as in the states or elsewhere, but nevertheless a tad controversial. Nice work!!!

Please don’t give atheists a bad name. Doing and laughing at sacrilig. things does not make you an atheist, nor does it define one. The more you find this funny, does not make you more of an atheist. Atheists live by their own code of ethics that is not religion-inspired and although we treat religion as bogus and mythological, we don’t go out of our way to be assholes about it. At least, I don’t…

even though this is off topic I’m still posting because I can’t stand ignorant people pushing ignorant points….. to everyone who wrote a comment about the Civil War not being about slavery… my point stands… TO SLAVES AND FREE BLACKS THE CIVIL WAR WAS ABOUT SLAVERY, but history isn’t written from their point of view because History with a capital “H” is based in racist epistemology, and IF YOU ARGUE THAT THE CIVIL WAS WAR ABOUT ECONOMICS WITHOUT ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THE US ECONOMIC SYSTEM WAS BASED ON SLAVERY YOU ARE AN IDIOT, and IF YOU THINK THAT EVERYONE WAS HAPPY ABOUT EMANCIPATION YOU ARE AN IDIOT. Please people, I always hate to resort to this, but I’ver had a little more than neo-liberal high school education on the Civil War, slavery, Black history and historiography… like 4 years of INTENSIVE study. I’m right. Read a book, read a few books, read the right books.

I think what we have been trying to say is that saying the Civil War was specifically about slavery is a bit off. Yes, slavery was one of many factors and played a large role. But I have met people (mostly Southerners) who will tell you that the primary driving force of the Civil War was state rights versus federal rights. History will always have as many interpretations as there are people on this planet. I’m sure a lot of people here have had “a little more than neo-liberal high school education” on a lot of subjects, including U.S. History (myself included).
I’m not trying to change your mind, I know that’s not possible when someone insists on using all caps to make their point. But stop getting your panties in a wad and settle down a bit. I haven’t seen anyone say that slavery wasn’t a factor in the war, the argument seems to be that it wasn’t **the** factor. Wars never have just one cause.

This actually made me gasp out loud. Then I broke into laughter.

I’m not offended by it, I’m just really surprised anyone actually got this tattooed on their body.

The only part that bothers me I think, is that the Jesuses are kinda scary, and blue-eyed. It’s the kind of tattoo where you feel like the eyes are following you.

I hope whoever has it tattooed on them is prepared for the bullshit they’ll encounter because of it.

well smurf, your comment that “Saying the Civil War was about slavery is like saying Darwin’s ‘Origin of Species’ was about survival of the fittest…. of course a lot of people seem to be under that impression too…. I give up.” sure implies that you were saying that the Civil War was not “about slavery” and if you were trying to say that slavery was *a* factor, not **the** factor, then you would have said that the Civil War WAS about slavery in some way. Unless you think that Darwin’s work was, in some way, about survival of the fittest, which would qualify your statement to provide for an * “a” not “the” factor* reading… And the Civil War was “specifically” about slavery. It was specifically about a lot of things. And, like I said, it really depends on whose history History is telling… Saying the Civil War was about slavery is not the same thing as saying it was ONLY about slavery. However, likening the Civil War-slavery discourse to that of Darwin-survival of the fittest IS essentially saying that the Civil War was not about slavery at all.
And CAPS LOCK and twisted panties are the last resorts of the frustrated informed person confronting ignorance. Whatever. All apologies for the ranting, no more Civil War talk, back to Jesus Fucking Christ.

    Jess, exactly.

Naive doesn’t even begin to describe people who think Jesus wasn’t fucking the apostles.

And honestly, if it’s sex with himself, how could it be nonconsentual?

And what’s wrong if it was done (and I doubt it was) for the sole purpose of pissing people off? Strong emotions, like anger, get people to think. We need to push people outside their comfort zones to get them to question what they’re really doing and get them to understand other arguments and gradually change.

#79 I never in any way, shape or form have said that religion should be free from criticism. In fact, to me, it was my criticism that brought me to my beliefs. I welcome it. It is not criticism that bothers me, but rather a mockery. I respect your opinion and your right. You only respect my right. That is fine. We are two different people.

It is my opinion (and mine only, not to be forced upon anyone else) that if we respect one another we ourselves will gain respect. I’m not saying this is your goal, but it is mine.

I am not without humor regarding my own religion. In fact I found “Holy Shit” with Jesus on the toilet to be quite funny. The image of Jesus is so skewed to what he probably looked like that it honestly doesn’t phase me. This I find to be a bit over the edge with the crown of thorns and nails, both symbolic in the Christian religion.
