A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

Finally an interview with Don!

We finally had a chance to interview Don, BME’s most prolific experience reviewer… which arguably makes him in many ways the best informed, or at least the most broadly aware, person on the planet regarding the personal experience of body modification! Click the picture to jump to the interview:

Thanks for the interview Don (and Roo), I enjoyed it quite a lot, especially the story at the end.

He is so awesome! I used to work in a library and no one ever commented on my piercings, so thumbs up to libraries.

I love that there are older people who are modified, seeing as the most commen remark I get about my modifications is “what about when you’re older? You’ll regret it.” People like Don prove those ignorant people wrong. Modification isn’t about age. It’s not limited to teens and adolesents, it’s for everyone. Even librarians 🙂

yay! it’s actually my dream in life to be a (modified) librarian/bookseller, so Don’s my hero. And he reviews LOTS of experiences, which just makes him better!

I’ve always been impressed with Don’s work and I love when he reviews my own experiences, so it was great to read the interview and get some insight into the way he sees things!

    Thanks for this one!

It makes me smile to think that a 40 year old librarian would get a PA for his first piercing, I don’t really know why but it makes me smile. I’m 18 and I’m still working up the nerve to get a vertical hood (I’ve wanted one for about 2 years now) just too chicken, so I have to tell you how much respect I have for you…and now I’m babbling so I’ll stop.
    Cheers

Wow, the infamous Don. I think everyone with an IAM account has reviewed experience submissions at some point and they are time consuming and require a lot of thought. The sheer number of reviews you have done is daunting.

Don is a legend, pure and simple. I didn’t mind one bit when he took over my #1 spot as an experience reviewer a few years ago. Clearly he has had more endurance for the task than I have. Haha! Well done Don and Roo on a great interview. A worthwhile subject to be featured if ever there was one.

He seems lovely! And it’s interesting what he says about libraries being tolerant of mods – at the library nearest my home in Edinburgh, there were a few members of staff who were visibly modified. Seems like it doesn’t matter very much in that context 🙂
