A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

I never know quite what to make of Burning Man. I’ve been nearly struck blind by pictures that friends insist on showing me of them cavorting naked, dangly bits flapping while dancing around fires and the like. Not that I don’t appreciate all the naked and the alternative but these are people that I know and prefer not to think of naked at all…

That said, this particular image strikes me as kindof funny. (I have looked at the other images on her iam page and not gotten this impression) With the suspension incomplete and from this angle, she’s assumed a hunched posture that with the big sunglasses makes her into the nerdy girl from high school who snorts when she laughs. Mind you if you are the girl the I knew in high school who snorts when she laughs, I apologize for ever bringing it up.

Oh my, it does. I’m sorry. But there’s also a bike in the corner of the pic for it.

That’s a really cool location for a suspension. I’d worry about the wounds getting irritated by all of the dust, though… You’d have to keep them wrapped up pretty tight.

did you get off the ground, or was it enough to get that far? (i won’t claim to know how intense that would be, versus suspending completely)

    but yeah…your E.T comment wins:)

There’s something undeniably powerful about watching someone working through the stages of suspension.
