OK, so it doesn’t have the geek factor that the Eames RAR tattoo does, but I’m sure there’s still a strong person reason for the blue counch. Tattoo by Tom at Ace in the Hole in Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas.
Anyway, I’m afraid that’s it for today. I’ve got to do a draining day (or three) of building synonym databases that I’ve been putting off a bit. There’s more to see on the main BME site of course as well (and I’ll post an update there today).

The Simpsons have 2 couches. One in the room w/ the TV and the other in the room w/ the fireplace (if I recall correctly). One’s blue, the other is brown. Usually, the one in the opening sequence is blue.

I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure they only have one (brown) couch and the fireplace is in the same room as the T.V. Sometimes the layout of the house changes from time to time; but most consistently the house has a living room, dining room, kitchen, upstairs bathroom, master bedroom and three additional bedrooms. This is just from memory though so I could be wrong.

I originally thought of the Simpsons couch too, but wasn’t sure of the color. I think they only have one couch but it has changed colors over the years of the show.

As I said, the Simpsons sometimes change things over time and between episodes. I agree with an0nymous vamp1re and think the blue couch you guys are citing are from older episodes. Like Marge’s dress used to have flowers on it. Some of these things change so gradually you don’t even notice it ( I have watched the Simpsons from pretty much the beginning and I totally didn’t even remember a blue couch). So either the tattoo is it, or it’s a coincidence but either way its pretty cool in my book 🙂

Hmmm. Google brings up Big Blue Couch as the name of a band out of Phoenix, and apparently they have a Myspace page.
It also brings it up as the name of a kid’s show. (OMG! I think I remember that! It has a puppet coming out of the space between the cushion and the back of the couch! Or was that Big Comfy Couch?)
I just spent time googling that. Lordy. I need to get laid 🙂

I thought that in the Simpsons’ house the brown couch was up against the wall in the TV room and there was a blue couch floating in the middle of another room by the entrance (the room with the fireplace). The brown couch is used more when it’s just a couple of characters but when it’s a family affair (Remember when Homer was showing them his new inventions, or when Krusty came over and thought he had to perform for everyone?) they are all in the room with the blue couch. Am I wrong?

There’s an ascii floor plan on this page . It shows the living room (brown couch) and the family room (blue couch) as two separate rooms. The color of the couch in the opening sequence has changed from season to season.
Completely pointless, but seeing the word “couch” makes me think “crotch” which is one of those words that just bugs the hell out of me. LOL
It reminds me of the Simpson’s sofa too.

Tis true, Big Blue Couch started out playing in and around E. Lansing bout the same time as Fat Amy, BotFLy, and Knee Deep Shag. They really rocked out, VERY good band, I just found a bootleg tape of them live in 01/95. I wonder who got the tat.
