A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

Oh, how far we have come…

…when the Lizardman is cracking jokes in teen magazines.

I wonder if they paid him, or just stole the picture like many magazines do. Anyway, Julie was given this by a girl she babysits because “you have tattoos so you might know him.” Ah, good, we’re now a misunderstood size-underestimated pseudo-ethnic group. Heh.

“There is so much more wrong with the world than a few anti-mod comments made by misguided over-protective mothers who probably really love their kids.”

What does she have to protect her daughter from? Mods? Because those sure as hell aren’t as dangerous as riding in a car, playing sports, and all the everyday things she probably let’s her daughter do.

“For all you know, the mother could be really frustrated that her 13 year old daughter constantly asks for mods that she is too young to legally get.”

Yet she’s bitching out pink, who is most definitely over the legal age for piercings and tattoos, for adorning her body the way she wants.

“When her daughter is old enough, she will obviously be able decide whether she wants to get pierced/tattooed/whatever with or without her mother’s approval.”

    If you take a look at the comments on this page;

you’ll see how much supportive parents are appreciated and make a difference.

You have to fight shitheads like these to make the world a better place. What do you want us to do, let them walk all over us?

Am I the only one that thought that was hilarious…? Of course it sucks that there are closeminded people who look down on us because of the things we do to our own bodies but it seemed to me that the magazine was just making fun of the woman. The little “Angry Mom Letter!” caption, and having someone as extensively modified as the Lizardman challenge her directly was pretty funny.

I don’t see how arguing on this blog is really gona solve anything here… just seems like an arguement I’ve heard a 100 times.

If you really feel the need write into the magazine if you want “to fight shitheads like these”

I agree with you. I can see it from the other side, I just think it’s completely unhelpful to write so angryly/violently in the comments section of this blog. It doesn’t achieve anything (beyond venting), and I think it promotes a negative attitude in general.

    Kerri:
As others have said, I think it’s pointless to argue about this in a blog.
I do understand that supportive parents make a difference. I did say the mother’s over-protectiveness was misguided. I don’t agree with the mother’s sentiments, I was just saying that I don’t think it helps to be so nasty/violent.

“You have to fight shitheads like these to make the world a better place. What do you want us to do, let them walk all over us? ”

Nobody want’s to be “walked over” but personally I don’t think a few nasty comments in a blog make a positive difference. Is the world really made a better place by bringing more violence and hate into it? What about doing something more constructive?

it’s hilarious that that woman was angry about piercings and tattoos on a magazine that sends the message to girls to starve themselves. i’m sorry, that seems like body modification to me, and an unhealthy kind at that.
