A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

Bruce Potts ROCKS!

Best school teacher ever? I don’t know, because I never took a class under him. But coolest ex-teacher ever? Definitely. And thus he gets to stay at the top of ModBlog until I get back from Carlilse and NYC! Anyway, go say hello to Bruce over at IAM:tribalface and meet one of the most remarkable men in this community with one of the wildest look (that he had to wait until he retired to get).

You’re my hero. That looks like it was painfull espically around your eyes and ears. yet soo cool. I espically like the multiple peircings but if you’re gonna stretch your lobe that much you should put the spacer in (it soesn’t look like one is in there and your right, pictures left ear looks stretched from this angle)

I have one question for you. How much did the tatooing of your head, face, and ears hurt? I am thinking about getting a tatoo. Pat and Dave will die!!! I work at a girl scout camp and all the staff are going to get tatoos at the end of the summer.

Good for him! If he’s happy, then that’s all that matters. I love his tattoo, it works for him, and he looks like a genuinely nice, happy, sweet guy. I wouldn’t want something that dramatic, but I would never judge someone who does. More power to him, and if you judge a book by it’s cover, then I feel sorry for you, and you’re gonna miss out on a lot of really cool people that way.

Oh, and PLEASE people, STFU with the “Hurr, whut about when ur 70? Ur gonna regret it….duhhh.”. I’m sure most people are aware that tattoos are pretty much permanent, and are OK with that. Just because YOU don’t understand it does not mean that you need to trot out the same tired old crap every time. Like we haven’t heard it before. Enough is enough.

Why would people consider this guy a great teacher just because he has his face tattooed?

I agree that he had to retire before he could go crazy with his tattoos.

When will people realize that tattoos don’t make anybody anything different than they are already?

I know many “uncool” people who have tattoos, and in fact, the majority of people I know who are troubled or “uncool” are tattooed.

Sorry, but I agree with comment 44. He is an idiot. If he’s concerned if 19 year old students think he’s cool because of his exterior disfigurement, he’s an even bigger idiot. And the “tribal” crap. Please, give it a friggen rest. What tribe is he from: the Fugawees? As in; who the fugawee? Sorry, Brucie, but you didn’t have a “former life” as a Tahitian. And mimicking their “body art” is more culturally insulting than respectful. And as for “warrior”, saying it doesn’t mean you’ve earned it.

    Why?
Just why? There is not reason for this and it’s an insult to a culture that takes this seriously.
I just can’t condone or understand. There are statements, and then there is this, and it makes no sense.

I am one of Bruce’s neices. I have not seen him in over 10 years and I do not know when I will see him again. I know that most of my siblings have not seen him either, and my parents have only seen him a couple of times. All I can say is that I hope that he is happy with his decision to tattoon is head. I want him to know that he is always welcome to visit his family when he wants too, especially during major holidays and events. The family may not like want he has done, but we still love him.

insulting somebody always happens when there is no argument. your hate comes back to you.
which is the higher value, the personal freedom and the wish to decorate oneself or some ancient primitive culture ? the distinction has to be between something you do to your own body and something done to other bodies – forcibly. In africa they have the tradition of cutting off woman’s genitals. I have no respect for this culture, i have respect for human rights.
