A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

Upside-down Hooks

It doesn’t matter who this is a picture of (and I think it’s actually an old picture anyway), but I always cringe when I see this particular hook placement for pulling — and I see it very regularly. When someone pulls, they never lean backwards (since humans tend to fall over when they do that), but pullers almost always do lean forward… Think about the way the hooks will rotate when the body leans that way, and you’ll see that they can easily either rotate out completely, or rotate just part of the way, hooking and piercing the inside of the hook channel. Ouch!

I used some hooks which had already been used for a suspension to pull with later that day. The person I pulled with was much taller than me which helped avoid any complications. EIther way, we were very careful and had spotters which is a must if you’re doing something like that.

I hope you autoclaved the hooks!

I think he means he left the hooks from the suspension in and pulled from that placement.

While i see the point in it, It’s not hard to remove and reinsert hooks the right way up to do a pull afterwards.

in my experience it was painful enough to get the hooks in in the first place, i would rather be extra vigilant with the pull that take em out and turn them around.
