"Go big or go home"

I'll make sure I don't leave any detail out! Well, a few months ago I saw glass talons and barbs for the first time. A friend of mine showed me, and for whatever reason I wanted them stuck in my head. I just really liked the way the glass looks, the colors and different styles really appeal to me. I've have piercings done before, like my tongue and ears with small gauges, and I was never really excited about them. I had them removed a long time ago as a result. So aside from my ink I haven't had any ... read more

Musings After My Scarification

I was scarred by Brian Decker on October 31, 2009 during his visit to Austin, Texas. My scarification is of a blue jay. It is placed on the left side of my torso; it is approximately eight by four inches; and it is incredibly detailed. The process lasted just over four hours. Decker used cutting, skin removal, and shading techniques. As time progresses and I surpass the five week mark of being scarred, I keep reflecting on all the things I failed to realize before Brian Decker removed some of my skin... As far as cleaning: I washed my scar ... read more

Another wonderful piercing; my vertical labret

I was sitting at home one day doing a whole lot of nothing and playing with my lip when I came to a sudden realization; it's completely possible to have a lip piercing that started where a labret would be but came out the top of the bottom lip. As soon as I realized this I fell in love with the idea. I was sure such a piercing must already exist and I wanted it. It sounded beautiful and wouldn't have the risk of harming the teeth like a normal labret. I asked a friend of mine who is an ... read more

Tried and True... Mostly

It seems to me that many of my modifications have been the cause of some duress, if not later some humorous afterthought. Throughout the lives of many of my piercings, events occur that either put them at jeopardy, cause me some sort of harm, or result in putting me in a bad position. For the most part, I can look back on these experiences and laugh. I have had my nostril pierced for probably a little over three years now. It was my first piercing that really went against my parents' wishes. Previously I had only had my ears and ... read more

The rise and fall of my anti eyebrow.

For the longest time Ive been facinated with the anti eyebrow piercing.I saw it while going through my piercers portfolio and fell in love. It even looked amazing bloody and bruised. growing up in a piercing shop I grew up getting pierced at 12 starting with my lip. My dad was good friends with the owner of the shop, and it became my favorite place to hang out, all the artists were used to seeing me hanging out there once and a while and I because close with many of them. I finally decided to get an anti eyebrow piercing ... read more

anti tragus.... take two

Getting my first "real," or needle piercing at the mere age of 16 led to a new fascination of mine. PIERCINGS! I am always aching for more. My mom hates how I love getting pierced so initially when I must have a new one I ask my father. With the same response from him each time I am always referred back to my mom. I propose the idea of a new piecing to her and she instantly says "No!" "You have so many holes soon water will pour out of you when you drink." Months pass and I continue to ... read more

Second Time Is An Opal Charm

As a fifteen year old way back in the mid-1990s, I once spent a late night lying on the floor of my bedroom, shoving a sewing needle through the flap of skin above my navel. An hour of muttered curses and profuse sweating later, the needle ("sterilized, " naturally, with rubbing alcohol--oh the follies of pre-Internet youth) was finally through and a sterling silver flea market hoop earring was jammed through the hole. Extraordinary amounts of parental screaming, which admittedly I deserved--nobody try this at home--followed. It should surprise precisely nobody that this ill-educated DIY piercing rejected post-haste leaving me ... read more

Septum Piercing (With Clamps, Painless)

I recently turned 18, and I decided it was about time I got a piercing for myself. I have my nostril and navel pierced, as well as my tragus, and previously had my lobes stretched to 5/8". My tragus and nostril were both pierced at Tan-tastic, the studio I went to for my septum piercing. It is clean and reputable. I asked Sharron, the piercer, how much the piercing would be, and viewed my jewelry options. The establishment doesn't pierce with retainers, as people have complained about them falling out overnight, causing the piercings to close up. I chose the ... read more

My gorgeous bridge

About two years ago I saw a girl on the internet with a bridge piercing. I was very fascinated as I had never seen one of these. At that time I was fourteen and my parents wouldn't let me have any piercing except for my lobes and helix. They told me I'd needed to wait until I was sixteen. It never popped into my head that I could have a bridge piercing myself, for almost a year. When I turned fifteen I begged for piercings but no, and everyday the answer was no. I started to draw dots on my ... read more

And back up to 25 we go

Just as background, I am a 19 year old, sophomore in college, who now has 25 piercings. These piercings include paired high nostrils, a retired standard nostril, a standard navel, a retired inverse navel, and various ear piercings (lobes, snug, daith, industrial, helices, retired tragus, anti-tragus, and rook). I never thought that I would get a conch piercing: I actually thought that after I got my anti-tragus pierced that I had finished with my ears. But I realized that the inner part of my right ear looked bare compared to my left, and I needed something to even them out. ... read more
