Happy 18th to myself!

Yesterday was my 18th birthday, so to celebrate, I decided I wanted to get myself a cool new piercing. I already had four holes in each earlobe, but that was the extent of my piercings. I had always really wanted to get something cool in my upper cartilage, but I wasn't really sure what I wanted or where exactly I wanted it. This was my first "serious" piercing, i.e. it was the first time I'd actually gone to a studio and had something done with a needle and real body jewelry. I was so freaked out before I went in!

I went to Kaleidoscope in Springfield, MO with my best friend and a few other people for moral support because, quite bluntly, I'm a chicken! Even though I didn't know what exactly I wanted, I knew I HAD to have Qui Qui do it. I had heard so many great things about what a fabulous piercer he was and I got a really good vibe about him from Kaleidoscope's website. I called them today and asked if Qui Qui was working. They told me he was only doing piercings for another hour today so we drove as fast as was legal to get there. I knew if Qui Qui couldn't do it today, I didn't want it done today.

I was so right about him being a great piercer! He instantly made me feel completely comfortable with the experience. The first thing he did was ask what I wanted done and then he took a close look at my ears. Now, understand that I have always been really self conscious about my ears because as I call them, they are "elf-shaped." Qui Qui told me rather nicely that I just have some fused cartilage which can be a bit tricky to pierce well but that there was nothing wrong with my ears. They were, as he called them, "special." That just made my day! He told me that he was good with "special ears" and that we would find something that looked awesome in them.

He was right - it did look awesome! He took me back into the piercing studio and was very meticulous and careful about the sanitation, etc. He went over all the after-care stuff with me and all the while was putting me more and more at ease. I don't even know how he managed to calm me down so much! He has this way of making you laugh at everything, especially your own nerves as you sit there waiting for the pinch you know is coming. He kept cracking jokes and you could tell he really enjoys the work he does. After we were all prepped, he clipped the ring to my cartilage and handed me a mirror to make sure it was where I wanted it. The positioning was perfect! Then he marked my ear carefully with the body marking pen and got ready to pierce me.

It was over so quickly! I couldn't even tell when he switched from the needle to the jewelry. It happened in less than ten seconds. He didn't even give me time to get tense again, he just did it like it was no big deal. Because he was so smooth with it, it really WASN'T a big deal. He made it seem like it was something as simple as breathing. It didn't hurt even half as much as I was expecting it to. He has such a gentle touch. You can completely tell that he treats body piercing as an art form and he is very passionate about what he does. And rightly so, he does beautiful work.

Qui Qui was extremely kind, clean, professional, knowledgeable, and every other good quality you'd want in a piercer. I can't believe I didn't know about him until just a few weeks ago!! He must be Springfield's best kept secret. I can't believe how smoothly that went. I am super excited to go do that again sometime soon - and again and again - because being pierced by Qui Qui was such a fun and positive experience. I had no idea getting a piercing could be so exhilarating. I won't ever let anyone else near me with a needle now. He's totally got me hooked! I will definitely keep coming back to see him until I run out of cash or run out of things to get pierced, whichever comes first!

I highly recommend him to anyone who wants anything pierced. I don't think anyone could do a better job. If you still have any doubts, just go take a look at his profile and some of the work he has done. I have yet to see or hear about one negative result from him piercing someone. He is wonderful to work with because he treats you very much like an individual that he is excited to work with. Just as a painter values his canvas, Qui Qui is very careful and respectful of your body. Body piercing truly is a fantastic, beautiful art form in the hands of a master like Qui Qui.
