The "Innocent Girl Down the Hall" Gets Her Left Nip Done
ow on Earth a "innocent" kid who's PETRIFIED of needles got into piercing is beyond me. I guess I'm not as into it as many others who send in stuff, I've only had two lobe holes in each ear and my tongue done, may my abandoned helix r.i.p. But Thursday I added another hole to the collection, one I truly think I'm going to enjoy..my left nipple. Poking around on RAB, I found someone who was in my area to come with me to get it done and be a handholder (THANK YOU JOSH!), so as soon as my karate class was over for the semester, we went.
All day Thursday, all I could think about was that I was going to get my nipple pierced. I'd been thinking about it for a long time, and finally the day was here. I called in "sick" to work, went to my classes as always, and made sure to eat a decent lunch so that I wouldn't pass out. When Josh called up to my room to tell me he was ready to go, I was in some weird state of half-nervousness and half-excitement. We wound up leaving later than planned, and I'd been snacking to both calm my stomach and so tha I wouldn't pass out.
So we drove to Perforations in DC, making idle talk. I was getting more nervous as we drove, so talking about something other than piercing was good. When I got there, I filled out all the paperwork, read the aftercare sheet, and selected my jewelry, a SSS straight barbell. I'm really active, and heard that it was better to have straight barbells if you're active. Fish was going to be my piercer, and he went back to set up some of his stuff, then came back up front to get me. This was it!
I'll admit, I was totally nervous by then. I had Josh come back with me, and all I can remember saying was that it was really cold. Despite the cold, though, I took off my shirt and bra and I knew it was really happening.
Fish washed his hands, put on gloves (the first of many pairs he went through...quite clean). Then he cleaned up around my nipple with something that wasn't iodine (but I don't remember what it was) and marked where he was going to pierce. Then, becuase I was nervous, he said the best thing to do was to lay back on the chair/table thingy, close my eyes, and focus on my breathing. I grabbed Josh's hand and let things happen. From karate and meditation experience, I knew a little about focusing on breathing/meditation, but couldn't for the life of me get a steady pattern going. I knew sort of what would happen, but was not sure how long it would all take. My nipple was clamped, which didn't hurt at all, though from what I'd read, I sort of expected it to. There was a little pulling, but that was it. It was kind of weird, knowing what was going to happen, but not watching it. I think someone said something like, "That was the worst part, can you handle that?" after it was clamped, but I wasn't paying much attention. I knew that next Fish would be trying to get the needle to go in, so I was devoting a lot of energy to my breathing. Still couldn't get it quite right.
Then Fish started to go along with my breathing, almost "coaching," but I knew from my tongue piercing that he was getting ready to stick the needle in, him finding my rhythm (or lack thereof) and trying to get it better. After breathing slowly in and out twice, the needle went in. At first, it was a prick, then a little sting. I know I squeezed Josh's hand harder and squenched my eyes, because it actually caught me a little off guard. But that was the worst of it. I felt the jewlery getting pulled through, and when I thought it was all over, I opened my eyes to see my new hole. No, it wasn't pain in a bad way. It stung just a little, and I could feel adrenaline rush through me. But I felt that because Fish was going along with the breathing and I was there with Josh that I was sharing the experience...it felt good. I put my shirt back on (no bra at first, just because I didn't want to deal with it, but it turned out it felt more comfortable to have it on) and listened to the aftercare, and then hopped down off the chair/table thingy. I HAD A NEW HOLE!
Since getting it about five days ago, I haven't had any problems with it. I'm following the aftercare religiously, and finding things that I bump into without ever having thought about it before, most notably my bed (it's bunked in my dorm) and chairs and stuff. There was just a little blood yesterday evening when I cleaned it, but it's there! Next May, when classes end, I'm going to get my other one done. I didn't have them done at the same time because of the way I wear my backpack, which would interfere with the healing of the one in the right side. Guess I haven't had it long enough to know the long term effects, but this is one piercee with yet another great experience.
peace and take care, ~kristin
