My Self Pierced Belly =)

anted my belly button pierced for about a year but every time I asked my parents they said no. After I'd begged and begged for over a year, I decided to ask for my eyebrow. Of course they liked that idea even less. So, I did the only thing I COULD do. I did my belly myself =) I had read all about thisd piercing at BME so it wasnt like I was going into the procedure blind. I decided that all I needed was the right materials but that could wait. I knew what I was doing but I didn't actually think it'd go through. The feeling was hard to explain. Kind of like, I knew I was getting it after a year of begging but I still didn't believe it.

Anyway, i tried for about a week. Each night I'd freeze my belly button and go at it with a safety pin. Let me tell you, it's NOT as easy as it looks!!! Sure, going through the first few layers is easy but the bottom is almost impossible! After I'd tried for about 2 weeks I decided to try one more time and if it didn't work I'd beg and beg my mom =) Well, it worked =) I got home from school and decided to do it right away. I got a bowl of ice (i HATE pain!) and a safety pin, plus a little mirror so I could see the bottom of bellybutton to. I froze the area for about 10 minutes until I couldn't feel anything and stuck the pin through. I couldn't even feel it! I wasn't even aware that it was through until I could feel the pin through the other side! I gave it one last push, you heard a big 'pop' and that was it. I closed the pin and cleaned it out. Then i wiped away any evidence so my mom would never find out.

I couldn't even tell it was in there! It looked great and felt great too. There was no pain and I could move the pin up and down without it hurting. Taht night I went to bed feeling great about myself. The next day it looked great except for that it was off to the left. I decided that it had to be perfect so I took out the pin, got more ice, and deided to re-pierce it. Bad move. This time it took about 45 minutes to get the pin through. It just would NOT go through the bottom, plus the numbing kept wearing off. So, eventually I pushed really hard (because I was getting pissed) and it was through! This time it hurt A LOT more! Skin kept tugging on it when i moved it and it was all red and swollen. 2 days later, it was literally pussing! So obviously it was infected! So, of course, I took it out. I was so upset. I should have just kept the first one. It's been 3 weeks since my last one and I'm going to attempt it again within this week. Here are some tips on doing this: 1) stay calm! You obviously can't pierce any part of your body if you can't even keep your ahnd still! 2) clean it out EVERYDAY! 3) use a sterilized needle! 4) If you hate pain like me, I suggest you use lots of ice! 5) If you can, get it done proffesionally. It's a lot safer! But, just in case, your parents DO say no, THEN do it yourself =) Just make sure you know what your doing =) 6) Do NOT leave the pin in! If you can, use a belly button ring. NOT an earing! It's not safe for your bellybutton. 7) Make sure to act as normal as possible after. Slouching, bending down, etc. It makes the whole bigger and that way it won't hurt as much when you put in a ring =) ANd it's less obvious to your parents. 8) If the area pusses then I suggest you take OUT the pin/ring! Don't just think the infection will go away! 9) Don't let other's touch it! Especially with dirty hands! 10) if your in the shower for example, don't be afraid about letting water touch it. It will sooth the piercing thus moving the healing process along faster. Some advice, don't just do this because it's the latest thing. Do it because YOU want it done! Your going to regret it if you do it to set a trend. If you really want it done, then do it. It looks great! I hope you enjoyed my experience! If you have any questions you can email me at [email protected] =) I'd be happy to answer any questions that you might have. Wish me luck with my next try =) Happy Piercing =) *Jen
