Self-Navel Experience

ave wanted to have some part of me modified in some way for 3 or 4 years, but I never actually had the guts to do something. Until I met John. My best friend (John) and I had talked at length about what we could pierce, but since his dad is a preacher and my dad is the choir director at our church, we couldn't have our eyebrows or noses pierced or anything, so we decided to do our bellybuttons.

note: both of our parents think piercing is a sin and a mark of slavery.

and since we don't have the money to get an apartment, and we're both 17, we have had problems getting things going.

we set a day to do them (January 3, 1998) and when the day came, we chickened out together. ;)

John called me a week later, and said "hey dude, guess what I just did!" I was like "I dunno. what?" he said "I just pierced my bellybutton dude. It's really cool. Go do it!" My mom was home at the time, so I walked downstairs into her room, and got a sewing needle and one of her earrings. (I had never seen or heard of BME at the time, and had no clue how people did this sort of thing) I walked back upstairs, went into the bathroom, turned on the fan, and laid everything out on the counter (peroxide, earring, ice, paper-towels) I was holding the needle, and I sat down on the lid of the toilet to do the act. My hands were shaking really badly, (I have an extremely low tolerance for pain) and I was really scared, but I had to do it, because I knew it was now or never.

I took the needle in my hand, and pulled out the top part of my bellybutton (not sure what its called) and placed the needle on top of the skin. It poked me (duh!) and hurt, (I have NO clue what I thought it was going to feel like) and I started to think it wasn't for me. I was in there for about 30 minutes trying to get up the nerve to do something, when my mom knocked on the door and said "Johns on the phone". (She probably thought I was sick or something). I yelled "tell him I'll call him right back" and decided then and there to do it. Since I didn't want to see it go through from the top, I pulled out the top again, and placed the needle on the bottom of the skin so I wouldn't have to watch. I pushed really hard, and I heard a little "pop" sound, and when I looked down I was expecting to see the needle poking through the top of my bellybutton. I guess I hadn't pushed hard enough, and now the needle was sticking out of the bottom side of the skin. I felt like crying. It had really hurt, and I had to do it again.

I rubbed some more peroxide on the skin and decided to do it RIGHT NOW!!!!!! (then call John and lie about how long it took me) I was getting this big adrenaline rush and suddenly decided "screw the pain" I pulled out the skin, took the needle, and watched as the skin was forced up and the needle was dim, then the skin was really being pushed up, then (yay!!) it came through with another little "pop". I felt so happy and relieved, I couldnt even think. I wanted to jump up and yell "HAHA!!!! I DID IT!!!" my mom was downstairs though, so I just sat there grinning foolishly.

I took the needle out, and took my moms little earring and pushed it through the hole. It must have been alot bigger then the needle, because it hurt alot too.

note#2: at no time during the whole piercing did I bleed.

I quickly stuffed all the things that were on the counter under the sink, ran in, and called John. (I ended up telling him the truth about the pain, and when I did, he told me he had thrown up. haha. I got the last laugh after all! :)

It totally healed up in about a week and a half, and I have never had any pain except the one time I snagged my bar on my shirt as I was pulling it off at a pool. I have since bought a ring for it with a little black bead. My parents haven't found out yet, and we're now talking about doing our nipples. (but from what I've read, it hurts a lot more. maybe we can get somebody professional to do it next time)

I know this isn't anything really amazing, like a PA piercing, but it was still really fun, and I didn't stop sneaking looks at it for a month. I love it, and so does my girlfriend, and that's all that counts.
