My Eyebrow

Ever since I started watching WWF (now WWE) when I was a young preteen girl, I've wanted to get my eyebrow pierced. Which wrestler was I crazy about? Yep. He was The Undertaker, The Phenom, The Deadman... or, the Dead-Sexiest-Man-Alive as I liked to call him. I had to have been about 11 or 12, and I not only fell in love with him, but there was just something about a barbell through the eyebrow that, as I like to say, 'made my loins tingle.'

It didn't stop there. Between the ages of 16 and now, I heard an Evanescence song on the radio, and I loved Amy Lee's voice. When I finally got to see what she looked like, I was like, 'Wow! Nifty!' She's got her eyebrow pierced, and it looks really good. And then along came other bands like Korn, with eyebrow-pierced Jonathan Davis, and the more I saw it, the more and more I wanted one.

I feel sort of ashamed at myself for mentioning Fergie from the Black-Eyed Peas, but her eyebrow piercing looks really neat, too. Hers isn't at the outside corner of the brow like mine is, hers is right at the arch of her eyebrow, in the center. I don't really like the way those eyebrow piercings look, but she still looks good with it.

So, finally, after a few hissy fits with my mom, saving up some money, and researching tattoo and piercing places in the area, I found the one I wanted: Maya Tattoo out of Sioux City Iowa. This place is great. They have an excellent reputation for being the cleanest, most sterile body mod shop in the tri-state area. All of their piercists have trained at Fakir Intensives in California, and are very good at what they do. One of the piercists, Rob Hill, is also a performance artist who eats fire, glass, drives nails into his nasal cavity, body suspension, the works. This guy is a god in my eyes.

So, I go into the studio and get set up to have my right eyebrow pierced. That in itself was a feat. They only take credit or cash! I had no cash on me, of course, so my boyfriend and I had to go try to find a Hy-Vee and cash a check. Luckily, I didn't have to write too big of a check; Maya Tattoo had a special on the Saturday that I went to go get it: half off the piercing price. It was normally $30, so it because $15, and then rings are $10, so it was $25 to get my eyebrow pierced. That really made my day rock.

My piercest, Sean Wagner, is my age, and he's just finishing up his apprenticeship. He said Eve (the owner) and Rob and the rest of the gang have basically been putting him through hell. Yay hell! My eyebrow gets pierced. It hurt, but not near as much as I thought it would. Sean did a great job, and I'd really like to go to him again for my next piercing. He was nice, he made me feel comfortable, and he and I kind of related to each other one-on-one, 'cause we both hate needles (as far as shots go, anyway). I told him needles make me nervous in general, and he did a good job of making me feel better.

Anyway, after getting it all cleaned up and nice, Rob pulls me aside to interview me about Sean's job. Of course, I'm all a-flutter, this guy is my idol after all.

His questions kind of made me feel awkward, though. I felt like I was the one under close inspection, not Sean. He kept saying, "Everyone's been telling me 'Oh, Sean was great, he did an awesome job,' and it seems kind of hokey. I want total honesty." I tried to give him total honesty, as hard as I could! Sean really did do an awesome job, and whenever Rob asked me a question, I didn't know what to say.

He even asked me if I felt like, under the normal prices, if I felt I was getting what I was paying for. I didn't really understand the question, so we basically talked about the same question for 5 minutes, because he had to ask it like 4 times before I could understand.

And, towards the end of the questioning, I make him laugh. I didn't think I was that funny, but it was so entertaining to him that he actually wrote down what I said/did, and then called over Eve to tell her. I felt pretty cool. Anyway, this is how it went:

Rob: "So you saw the needle?"

Me: "Yeah, I saw the needle. If I were a cat, I'd have been all like makes a motion like hair standing up and hisses and swipes at the air with a claw-like hand/paw, ya know?"

Rob: "laughs"

I felt cool. Very cool.
