It Didn't Even Hurt!!
I had wanted to get something pierced for the absolute longest time...my boyfriend has his lip pierced and all I had was my ears. My mom is what you would call "conservative and protective" so I did not really have many options. I really wanted to get a ring in my nostril, but my mom would have none of that, so we worked out a deal that if I got just a tiny little stud in my nose, I could get my eyebrow pierced as well. I did not really think that I would look that great on me because I am a very small girl. I weigh only 100 pounds and am just a little over five feet tall. But, I really wanted a piercing, and if that was my only option I guess I would have to go for that.
I looked online for the best place to get it done. I wanted something in my budget as well as a very sterile environment. I finally decided on Needle Freaks, which is just a few minutes away from my house. I called their piercing specialist, but she said that they were only open for ten more minutes, so I should come back tomorrow. They called back a few minutes later and said they would stay open a few minutes later for me to get my piercings. I had my dad drive me there but once I got inside I realized that I had forgotten my ID. I was extremely disappointed and angry.
In the meantime, however, I looked online for a better deal, because I was not really looking forward to paying around $30 a piece for my piercings. I eventually found a very sanitary, locally owned, non-chain tattoo and piercing parlor, which was about fifteen minutes from me. They had a fifteen-dollar special for every hole above the waist on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and lucky me! It was Wednesday.
I talked my mom into bringing me that very day. My stomach was churning when I got into the car, because I actually have a needle phobia, but this was something I had wanted for a really long time, and I was going to do it. The only thing that I was really worried about was the pain, due to the fact that I hate needles. I was even scared to get my tetanus shot, which is pretty pathetic.
We got to Flesh Chamber (F.C.) West, and I walked into the waiting room. There was not anyone else there, so lucky me, I got to go right in. My mom and I got our driver's licenses copied, and I filled out all the forms. Jeff (the owner) brought me back into the piercing station and had me sit on a doctor's bench. He must have washed his hands 329571 times because he had to answer the phone, re-wash his hands, and get new latex gloves.
He got the needles ready, a 20 gauge for my nose, and a 16 gauge for my eyebrow. He shoved the metal tube up my nose after cleaning and sterilizing it inside and out. To say the least, getting my nose pierced hurt more than almost anything I have encountered thus far in my life, but that was okay. I was pleased with the results because I had chosen quite a cute little green stud for my nose.
Next was my eyebrow. He thoroughly cleaned and sterilized my brow. He got the barbell ready and tightened the clamp with a rubber band. The pressure of the clamp hurt a little bit, and when he asked me to hold it for a minute I sort of freaked out because I thought he meant that I had to hold it while he pierced me. Needless to say, when the needle went in, it was merely a really big pressure and did not hurt at all. I would recommend this particular piercing to anyone because it is by far one of the least painful.
My mom gave me this very disgusted look and said it looked gross, but I thought it looked great. Jeff gave me two bags of sea salt, because he explained that saline solution is not a very good cleansing formula and does not aid in healing at all. He directed me to wash both my piercings with warm water and soap twice a day and soak them with the sea salt solution twice a day as well.
I performed both the washing and soaking last night and put a band aid over both my piercings while I slept because I did not want them to fall out or get caught on something and get pulled out while I slept. When I woke up this morning I looked in the mirror, and no puffiness on my eyebrow AT ALL! I was thrilled. There is no swelling, bruising, puffiness, pain, or secretion. I suppose it will eventually bruise a little and swell, but that is expected with an eyebrow.
Neither of my piercings bled very much at all. The nose was only a little crusty on the inside from the dried blood, but otherwise there was not really anything wrong. I am so happy with my eyebrow; I think it really adds a lot to my otherwise boring physique. Jeff did a very good job with keeping my nerves up and sterilizing everything. I am pleased with his work and how good of a job he did with the eyebrow. It did not even hurt a tiny bit, which surprised me.
