ouch...but oooh so pretty!

Well let me start by saying I am a HUGE baby when it comes to pain. With that said, here's my story.

I have been wanting to get my nose pierced for a long time.About 8 months ago,I started to do my research on it. All the risks, the problems, the healing and cleaning process. I even watched videos of other people getting it done so that I would know what to expect! My boyfriend, coworkers, and family did not approve. But I talked to my boss and he told me that I wouldn't lose my job over it. So I didn't care. I was going to wait until labor day weekend. I took a little road trip to visit my friends at school. So we're all hanging out, having lunch, and mind you two of my friends had their noses pierced. My one girlfriend says "you know, if you want to get it done now I know this place, it's extremely clean, and they're very nice there..." I took a deep breath and decided that this was what I wanted. So off we went.

When we got to the shop,I was SOOOO nervous,I had a stomach ache. My friends were all excited. Just one look around and I could tell this place was very clean. The woman asked me what I wanted, I told her I wanted to get my nose pierced. She took me in the back so I could pick out my jewelry. She showed me this little strip, and wanted me to watch her put all the utensils into this little machine that would sterilize them. The strip was to show that it had been brought to the proper temperature. Looking around the room, I realized that the garbage can and the paper towel dispenser were motion sensored, and the sink was run on a pedal as to not cross contaminate anything. I was VERY impressed with the care she took to make sure she clean everything thoroughly. She was extremely understanding with me being so nervous, though I still felt a little ridiculous.

Then it came time for the piercing. My stomach was turning! My friends had told me that it was only a little pinch, but I was still really nervous. I asked her not to let me see the needle when she put it near my face, for fear that I may start screaming and freak out. She laughed and abided. I closed my eyes. She explained to me (to make me more comfortable) that every time she was going to touch my face, she would let me know,so that I wasn't startled or freaked out.She wiped this weird cleaner inside my nose, smelled good but gave me a burning tingling sensation. She put the dot on it, asked me if it was in the right spot. I closed my eyes, she asked me to breath in and out and on the count of three to hold my breath...she put in the receiving tube...and I felt it go through...and OH MAN did it hurt. It felt like all the nerves in my nose were on fire. That is the best way I could possibly describe it. But in all fairness, it only lasted maybe a minute. She made me listen to the
sound of her dropping the needle in to the sharps bin, just to make sure I knew that a new needle was used every time. As soon as she took the needle out though, it felt totally fine. I couldn't feel the pain anymore. I came walking out into the other room to show my friends. And we all loved it!

About 40 minutes later, I ended up taking an ibuprofen, just because I could feel it throbbing a little bit. Today is day number 3 of having it done and I have to say, I absolutely love it. My boyfriend told me it looks totally cute on me. I had to say I told you so about fifty times. Would I do it again? Absolutely! It was worth that minute of intense pain. I have had no crusties so far, no problems (knock on wood), and I have been doing my sea salt soaks and saline soaks, so it's nice and clean. If I accidentally push on it or bump my nose on anything, it kind of feels like I got punched in the nose. But it's nothing a little advil won't cure! I will say that my coworkers (who are all 50-60 years old) have taken it far better than i expected. And my family is being more supportive than I thought.I will say it is funny to see people's faces when they look at me in the store...like maybe they think I'm an alien? But I could care less! I absolutely love it!I am so excited abou t my piercing..it's so me!!
