i’m going to third that sentiment. i’m not at all a fan of sailor tatts, but the shading and color in this one are awesome. i’m a fan of shading over using lots of black myself.
i too prefer colored shading over blackwork. blackwork can really weigh down tattoos and make them look less like the objects they represent. the gold here actually looks golden, isntead of like something someone drew in pen on paper and then colored in with a marker. mad props
