A black-and-white photo of a person mid-air in a Superman-style body suspension pose, supported by multiple hooks in their back and legs, smiling joyfully toward the camera. They are suspended horizontally in a large indoor space with high ceilings and visible rigging. A group of onlookers—some seated, some standing—watch with expressions of admiration, amusement, and support. The atmosphere is lively and communal, capturing a moment of shared experience and transformation.

Osiris Cutting by Russ Foxx

Ian recently got a large-scale skin removal of the God Osiris done by Russ Foxx at The Fall Tattooing. He’s definitely a braver guy than me as he managed to sit through the 12 1/2 hours it took to complete. 12 1/2 hours? That may seem like a long time, but keep in mind that Ian is forty foot tall giant. Photos of the procedure and finished piece continue after the break.

There is of course the possibility that there was a typo in the email and it took 2 1/2 hours, which to me seems like a more appropriate length of time for this piece. If it really was 12 1/2 hours I assume that mostly reflects lots of breaks.

I sure would hope that’s a typo because that makes a lot more sense.

it did take 12 1/2 hours. I was there for 4-5 hours the first day and he had to close shop (it was his first day at a new studio) and the next day i was there for 7-8 1/2 hours. We both thought it was going to only take 3 or 4 hours but it just ended up being very decieving. the necklace and head piece took most of the time to do. There was lots of very small detail in it. the necklace took the most time. Russ is a perfectionist and took his time to make sure it is right, i only took one break while on the table and that was so he could pierce someone on the second day.

Yeah long time, but I’d say it was worth it.

As far as I remember it was approximately 10 1/2 total, but I can’t remember now for sure. I quoted Ian for about 4 hours of work, so I charged him according to that. 🙂

just an fyi on time span…just on my outter portion of my arm, from elbow to shoulder socket area…that roughly took around 3-4 hours of cutting time if memory serves me correctly.

I had my entire arm done in roughly 5 sessions with say an average of 2-3 hours overall (ie: some portions only took say an hour, while others took much longer, hence the “average” statement)

and my arm is just geometrical line work.

The piece looks good. some of it looks a bit busy (necklace, head-dress and the sythe…but yeah just wondering what the specs are (width vs length) as that will display just how big this piece is.

By far my favorite cutting I have ever seen. Ancient Egypt is amazing, i love it.
also the necklace does look quite tricky, but on the bright side, you get to be in a tattoo shop for 12 and 1/2 hours!

Ha. I actually read that as 12 half hours, not twelve and a half hours. I thought shannon was just being obtuse…
