Next weekend (May 5th – 6th) IAM members Ryan and Laura are participating in the MS150, a 150 mile bike ride between Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, to raise funds for research into the cause and cure for Multiple Sclerosis, a degenerative disease of the central nervous system.
2.5 million people worldwide are affected by MS, including family members of IAM members, and likely some IAM members themselves.
They are accepting donations online here (Ryan) and here (Laura).
Donations can be as little as $1.

I say that as someone with a family member suffering from MS. Seriously, stop it. If you really want to ‘do something about it’, sell your woofty TCR, donate the proceeds, and buy an old Schwinn. True philanthropy is anonymous and unglorious.
But yeah, I’m sure all the MS sufferers out there are very grateful you get to go on a bike ride and pat yourselves on the back. Wow, you got a t-shirt! Take THAT, multiple sclerosis!

I think that’s a little harsh and a rather negative viewpoint to have.

One of my family members is suffering from it also (has been for as long as I can remember), and there’s a high chance I will develop it.. that’s beside the point though.

i have ms, and i know there are at least 2 other iam people that have it as well.i
i did the walk lask week here in columbus, but it was nowhere near 150 miles!
but thanks for riding farther than us gimps can go:)
and instigator, i know at least for the ms walk here, 82 cents for every dollar raised goes to research or helping msers with programs and equipment. it’s nice for those with the disease to see so many people supporting it. i think it’s nice to actually SEE so many people who care, because so often it feels that no one does. and sometimes that’s worth more than research. to me anyway.
i don’t care if you are a family member of someone with ms. you still don’t know all the feelings that come along with it. to people without it, maybe it seems like yeah- just give the fucking money and go home. but i, for one, like seeing all the people out there, too.

I was going to go for a bike ride this weekend anyway.
Instead of me getting sweaty and sunburned by myself, I’m going to get sweaty and sunburned with lots of other people, and raise a small sum of money for a good cause. My small sum of money combines with a few thousand other people’s small sums of money, and we end up with millions of dollars for research and direct support of people with MS. I don’t pretend that this effort on my part is going to cure a disease, but it’s better than nothing.
And as for my bike? It’s 25 years old, and it was free. Not so woofty.

Thank you for posting this Shannon and keepin’ it real! I thought people would complain because it doesn’t seem like it’s outright Mod related, but I really enjoy the fact that you include pieces of everything, life-affecting articles and events like this as well. It’s a nice reminder that this can be more than a fashion show… as a place of community.

It’s a series of nationwide events. The one in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area starts in Frisco, which is just north of Dallas.
If it said “Frisco to Ft. Worth via Decatur” no one from outside the DFW area would have any idea where it was. Probably we should have said “the Dallas area to Ft. Worth.”
