I first saw this piercing at a hardcore gig in London, in about September 2000 and was completely in love with it, I knew that I had to have it! So when it was arranged for me to get my septum pierced I thought ' why not do your nape instead' as I didn't have the money for both. After a bit of hesitation and a phone call to the piercer's it was booked for Saturday.

I spent Friday night on the Internet chatting to my friends telling them what I was getting and also getting increasingly worried. I had another look at BME and every nape piercing web site I could find to make sure I knew everything about this beautiful piercing. By the time I went to bed, although nervous I was fairly excited!

Saturday morning came and I made my way down to Portsmouth with my best friend Maddy, who was to get her septum done today. The train journey seemed to last forever, but two chocolate bars later and a bottle of cola and we were on the walk down to Capileos. I had not been pierced here before, but a lot of my friends have and they had nape piercing on the price list which is always a good start, some of the other piercers around here did not even know what it was! I don't really know what made me so nervous about this piercing, I have had plenty of others but for some reason I was just so nervous.

I don't think it really helped that Maddy seemed just as nervous about my neck as I was!

We reached Capileos and received a friendly greeting, I stood for a while just looking at different tunnel plugs before enough courage was plucked to say 'um..Hi I was wondering if you could pierce the back of my neck?' I've never seen a smile so big as the ones I saw in reply! Nick was grinning ear to ear whilst the apprentice looked amazed! Nick came and asked me where abouts and gave my neck a bit of a tug then grinned again. I was warned about the reject rate and asked if I still wanted to go threw with it. I looked at Maddy grinned then asked for the forms. Whilst I was filling these out Nick began to prepare the studio. My hand was shaking so much I could barely write. I took a few deep breathes then walked into the piercing room, followed closely by Maddy.

I popped myself onto the chair, which reminded me of a dentist chair, and pulled my dreads forward into a ponytail on the front of my face. I was still continuing my breathing and was feeling a lot more relaxed. Nick was cleaning up the area and spent the next 30 minutes marking up the area and making sure the dots were straight. Three opinions were given before he carried on. Next was the jewellery. A curved bar was used and I was asked the size balls I wanted. I chose the biggest they had. I knew it was about to happen and squeezed Maddy.

Nick warned me he would have to clamp my neck tightly and this would properly hurt, so I prepared for the worst but felt nothing, so far so good. Then the question of 'on zero... are you ready?' I swallowed so hard and replied 'here we go.' 3.....2.....Zero threw...I let out a deep breathe 'we're in' Nick said. For some reason I started laughing. I think this is because I was so nervous and it didn't hurt a bit. Pinch pressure pinch, exactly. Although the next bit hurt slightly more. Putting the jewellry in was sore and stung a bit, but then that was it. Grins all round. I got up and looked in the mirror and the other piercers came in to inspect the top and everyone, especially me was amazed by how beautiful this new piercing looked. Nick then proceeded to give me a tunnel stretched free for being so good!!

It's been 3 weeks now and I've had no grief at all. The first few days it was understandably sore but that's it. Sleeping has been problem free and I love it so much. I've had some amazing reactions to it, some incredibly positive whilst others negative but I love having my neck pierced, and there are no signs of rejection yet. In fact I like it so much I want another one put underneath it!

For anyone who is thinking about it, go for it! It is pain free and feels great. I would recommend you check the piercers out and take a good friend with you though! Maddy is fantastic and helps me clean it lots as well. I personally have found salt water the best agent for healing piercings. If you would like to ask any questions feel free to email me.
