Yesterday I finally got my triangle piercing. This was something I had been wanting to get for months but well, I procrastinate. :) I did come about this -- -- close once before but I hadn't timed the visit to my piercer very well because I would have gotten my period too soon following the piercing, which can cause supposedly cause complications and make the initial healing process quite unpleasant. So recently I discussed visiting Anne Greenblatt (http://www.piercingexquisite.com) with a friend of mine because he had been really interested in getting a genital piercing (neither of us are novices when it comes to piercing but we hadn't ventured into the wonderful world of genitals just yet). Anne came highly recommended by innumerous friends of mine, her studio is close, and as almost anyone who is part of the online piercing "community" knows, she is held to be one of the foremost online experts on piercing (she maintains the rec.alt.bodyarts piercing FAQ). So ta-da through a few emails and phone calls we had an appointment.

We got to her studio and waited a bit for her to finish up with her previous appointment, then went up. Anne is incredibly friendly and I would have to say that we spent much longer chatting about piercings, mutual friends, and just general goings-on before getting started than I expected to. That was really nice though because getting to know what sort of person your piercer is beforehand really helps with the overall comfort level and smoothness of the piercing. (The piercer I usually go to was a friend of mine before I ever even knew she was a piercer; another example of becoming friends with your piercer and how much it really helps.) My friend went first. He was getting a PA, and to paraphrase his experience, "Anne was unbelievably fast with the piercing; the most uncomfortable part was the receiving tube (which is inserted into the urethra for those who don't know); and after getting the jewelry in the pain was almost nothing and it didn't hurt really unless you go down stairs too fast or jostle it." From my perspective the worst part was how hard he squeezed my hand during the whole thing, but nonetheless he's quite happy with his new pierce. :)

Then it was my turn. Anne and I were the only one's in the room at this point and we went over general procedure, placement, and such. Triangles are very anatomy dependent and so a consultation came first, where she examined length and location of my clit and blood vessels and such. It was actually determined that I *was* suited for a triangle but a horizontal hood would have been really iffy since the location of my blood vessels would have required that the piercing be pretty shallow (not a good idea in my opinion). The reason I chose a triangle in the first place was because I knew I wanted to eventually get a genital piercing, but I don't much like the way labia piercings look, I did not want to get my clit itself pierced, and so I was torn between a vertical or a horizontal hood. The only reason I considered a vertical was for function, because otherwise I reeeeeeeeally am not into the way it looks. Yay horizontals! But the triangle is a sort of happy medium between the two in that is has the look of a horizontal but the function of a vertical. So my mind was made-up.

Anyway back to the piercing...after deciding the best placement for it, making marks, and everything else, Anne gave me a few moments to collect my breath and let me know when I was ready. I laid down, got a decent control over my breathing patterns, and told her I was ready. In a few moments I felt the familiar piercing pain and I tensed up but I really didn't think it was that bad. Nipple piercings are worse. She had it pierced and had inserted the jewelry before I knew it, and I was ready to get up and go over aftercare. I had no problems walking, no discomfort, no nothing. It's less than 24 hours later (at the time this was written) and I'm no longer bleeding and have not been in any real amount of pain, even when cleaning it in the shower. However I *do* have a high tolerance for pain; I don't mean to make this sound like a simple piercing because it isn't. Anne has had women scream bloody murder when getting this pierced, and they have been immobile while having to ice it for several days following and such things as that. It really depends on the individual. I'm just a good pincushion. :)

So that is basically the end of my story. I'm being good and letting it heal so I can't say just yet how it's going to affect sexual activity. If it's of any significance in terms of comparison I've had 6 earlobe piercings, 2 cartilage piercings, 1 labret, 2 tongue piercings (a venom pair), 1 tongue web, 3 nipple piercings (2 of which migrated), and an upper navel, besides the triangle. The worse as far as the piercing itself goes was probably getting one of the nipple piercings redone, because it was done much deeper the second time; and the worst healing process is definitely one's tongue because there's really no way to go about avoiding using your tongue while it heals.
