I've been wanting to get a VCH ever since my fiance got a Prince Albert done a few years ago, but I kept chickening out and making excuses as to why I couldn't get it done. I've had a few piercings before (nipples & bellybutton) and while they hurt to an extent, I was super afraid of getting THAT region of me pierced!!
At A Glance Author Alicia Contact Alicia@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Paul Studio Needlewurks Location Saratoga Springs, NY A friend of ours has had her VCH done for awhile and I'd always been asking her about her experience to talk myself into it. FINALLY, last weekend our talk about it finally did the trick. I got really excited and told everyone I was going to do it. I knew I had to tell people I was doing it or I'd chicken out again.
I asked my friend where she had hers done and she told me she wouldn't suggest anyone else but Paul from Needewurks, so I called up the shop on Tuesday to see when he was there and how much it'd cost. Turns out he's only there Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I work the evening shift at the hospital and my now husband works days. I really didn't want to go alone, so I took off work Wednesday so that he and I could go together.
We went out to eat first so that I'd have sugar and substance in my body (I have a tendency to feel lightheaded and almost pass out when I get pierced). Then we drove up to Saratoga and went in. Paul was outside of the shop with another co-worker and asked if he could help us. I told him I was there for a piercing and he asked what kind of piercing. I was a little embarrassed to actually say what I wanted, but I blurted out "hood" with a little effort. He said okay and we went inside. He IDed me and I signed some paperwork. Then he asked if I wanted a ring or a barbell and I really had no idea so I asked him what he thought. He said it's generally easier to clean a ring and most ladies start with rings and then they change to a barbell if they want. So, I agreed to start with a ring. He asked if I wanted just plain silver or if I wanted to bling it up with some gems. I just decided to go with the plain jane ring at first until after it's healed. Maybe I'll change it later.
He went back into the room to set-up and I chatted it up with the other guy that was working there. Finally, Paul poked his head out and said we could come back. I took off my jacket and Paul told me to just take one leg out of my pants and underwear and to hop up on the chair. Once I was up there, he explained that he was just going to mark me for center and I took a look at it in the mirror after he was done. I was too nervous to really know what to look at so I said it was okay, haha. Then he explained to me that most women find that the most uncomfortable part is when he places the receiving tube down there, which is what he was about to do. It definitely is pretty uncomfortable but not really all that bad. After he placed it down there, he asked if I was ready.
"As ready as I'll ever be" I said. He said okay and told me to breathe in through my nose and then out. Then one more time in through my nose and HOLY CRAP!! It was definitely the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. My husband told me I made the most agonizing face he's ever seen but the pain was very quick. My body folded in half when the needle went through but after it was done, it wasn't that bad at all. The pain was very quick - afterwards, I just experienced some throbbing and general discomfort.
He put the jewelry in and mentioned that I bled a little and asked if I had any alcohol or aspirin recently. He also mentioned birth control can make you bleed a little bit more too, which was probably my problem. He cleaned me up and I put my pants back on. Surprisingly, I didn't feel lightheaded at all!
We paid and he explained aftercare to me and that was it! I wobbled out the door, afraid to walk normally. I sat slouched in the car, afraid to put any pressure on the ring.
It's almost 24 hours after my piercing and it definitely feels a lot better. I can only feel it when I move in certain ways or when I forget and pull my pants up quickly. I can't wait until it's fully healed and I can try it out with my husband!!
My husband absolutely loves the way it looks and he asked me all last night if he could play with it yet! Unfortunately, he's gotta wait a little bit longer before he can, but I'm sure it will be worth it!
All in all, I definitely say that if you're thinking about getting a VCH, go for it. Yeah, it's going to hurt - but you'll live. You'll be in horrible pain for about 2 seconds and mild discomfort for a few hours or so. The end result is definitely worth it and you feel accomplished after it's all done.
